SAP Career with distance education

Hello Everyone

I have 9 year experience in ERP sector and have good command over all modules especially in Finance. Now planning to do SAP FICO course. Is there any chance to get jobs in SAP market  specially with distance education reason I heard that in India with distance education you can't enter in SAP market. Please suggest.

It does not really matter, whether you passed through graduation / distance education, as long as you have good skills in SAP. That is what your employers' or clients' interested in. Therefore, please do not much worry about your distance education. If you have 9 good years of ERP experience, you should be in a position to utilize in a better way. There are number of opportunities in FICO. You could even enhance by learning FSCM and BPC type areas. Hope this helps you.

I feel companies are interested in experienced professional as that is important to them.It seems they don't care about Education for experienced professionals.Education Background is only a criteria for Freshers. I have come across so may professionals who are not even SAP certified. Still they have good Jobs. This just tells me that companies care about knowledge and nothing else.

Me as a Fresher had a different Experience all together. Would like to know the opinions of Seniors on this forum.

I completed SAP Certification in MAY 2013. After that it was a very difficult task to get a job in SAP Industry as Fresher. I got my first Interview opportunity with a major Multinational Company after  6 months and i cleared all the preliminary rounds and cracked the Final Interview as well. But i didn't receive Offer Letter as i had Educational Gaps in my Graduation ( Engineering ).

I was heart broken. But thought some other company might look at my talent and hire me based on my knowledge in SAP. So i waited some more time. I got my 2nd Interview Opportunity with another Major MNC ( Don't want to mention names of the company or should i ? ) I cleared all the Interviews this time as well and submitted my documents but again i got rejected because of my educational gaps. I was devastated, thought no company would hire me based on my past.

My question to all the Seniors is, If companies hire based on the knowledge you have in SAP, why wasn't i hired? When i cleared my Interviews, their were candidates who couldn't even clear the preliminary rounds but their past education background was good. I don't understand the connection between Past Graduation performance and current SAP knowledge.

Shouldn't i be hired based on my Knowledge ? and not on past performances which has no relevance now in present. I mean i cannot change my past. Then how do i come out of this problem

Please guide me Seniors.Your advice would be a real help.

Dear Dhaval,

All these institutes are more or less the same, as all of them are ATC, which follows the same curriculum from SAP.

Please note SAP Certification program is not a job guarantee program. It is a 25 days training and give you the knowledge in SAP about configuration / end user transactions in the relevant areas. It cannot make you a super man in SAP. Therefore, you need to keep your expectations right on the program. Based on this knowledge and your previous experience, you need to convince your employers. Please note there are number of certified consultants in the market without job, still struggling to find one. Therefore, any decision should be based on your own interest. Later you cannot blame SAP Certification for not finding you a job.

Hope this helps you.

Kind Regards,

Ravi

Thanks for your suggestion!!!

I have done PGDBA -finance & since last  6yrs i am working on SAP(FICO & SD module)  as a user..

1) Is there value of SAP certificate in market ???

2) Should i do SAP course from any local institute rather than do from reputed institute which is       compare to very costlier for me???

Thanks Dhaval.

To be honest, there are many number of people in the market with SAP Certification, particularly in India. Out of all these, the most corrupted module is SAP FI as everybody want to become SAP Finance consultant from Intermediate to a Chartered Accountant. That is fate of SAP FI. Unfortunately, you will need to compete with all those people. SAP Certification may give you an additional advantage being a fresher to market your CV. But, please note it is NOT the only criteria to select you for a job by the employer.

I really cannot answer your second question, it all depends on your interest. SAP Training from ATC is costly, however, structured. Whereas, from local institutes, they are not structure, but economical. You need to decide what you want.

All the best.

Ravi

Thanks to all for your responses.

But as per above discussion with respect to my question still not able to decide on which way I need to go. I am very much confident with respect to my ERP knowledge but if we go in past (Distance education) then really still confuse reason that  as per my latest research on it ,big institute like Atos people are saying with distance education you can not enter in SAP market and you should not start SAP course.

Please suggest the right way.

Many Thanks.

Hi Amit,

I do not say all companies does act in the same way, but many of them work in the similar way. They have their own set of rules. This is particularly true for countries like India, where the supply exceeds the demand. Now a days HR function in the companies has become more stringent because of their bad experiences in the past and demands from the Clients.

I know nobody can change the past. However, you should be in a position to convince them why those breaks have happened. You should now on know how to convince them in this particular area.

Whatever happened is happened. You must forget them and move on quickly. You need to try for your next luck. That is the only option to go forward.

All the best.

Kind Regards,

Ravi

Dear Sir,

After your reply i come to know that in without experience(means fresher) or without past education (i.e. CA, MBA or graduate) very difficult to  find the job in market...

secondly, you was said in india there is supply more than demand... so my question is that is there any module in SAP where demand more than supply????... in result fresher also get a equal chance for job in the market....

Dear Dhaval,

There is no skill that is short in India. You name a technology, you would find people. Because, there are number of training institutes and trainers available. I do not think no other country has such potential. May be most of the training institutes run on pirated software, that is a different matter altogether.

You should not much worry about demand and supply theory. Today some course may be in demand, tomorrow it might not be in demand. Therefore, choose a module, which you likes more and which is more to do with your past experience and education.

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards,

Ravi

Dear Ravi,

Thank you for your reply. Don't you think this behavior of companies is wrong. I mean what would i person like me do in this situation. Faking experience seems a good option then. I think situations like this puts a candidate in a tough spot and he then tries to get into the Industry by Faking some experience. I feel companies should be open to candidates who are deserving and not judge them based on their past performances which has no relevance at all.

If it a professional company, they should let you know the reason for rejection. However, most of the companies would not. Companies will have their own way of selection candidates, there you do not what their requirements are.

Faking the experience should not be an option as it would further ruin the career. Therefore, please do not look into such malpractices, which may put you in further trouble.

Good, once you have taken decision you should not now look back. I hope you will never regret your decision, as life is process of learning.

The only thing I could suggest is learn CO on your own or give a reading, may not be now, at least after completion of your certification or getting a new job. That is more important. If you only learn FI, you may struck in one area.

All the best.

Ravi
