Hello,

For the Studio startup problem:

Please check if your java 32/64 bit version matches the Studio 32/64 bit version.

Try java -version from command line.

Next try would be to start with a clean workspace.

Delete the directory <user home> hdbstudio.

Attention: You will have to register HANA system again with Studio.

Hi,

I'm on 1.6.0.23 and if I look at the right place, Hana seems to be on 1.4.0 . So you suggest that I downgrade to 1.4.0?

Hi Philippe,

We discussed several connected topics in this thread. May I summarize that issue you are facing now is to have a fresh installation of HANA Studio Rev 48 without connecting to any server? If so, could you ever install HANA Studio Rev 48 succesfully on any desktop/laptop yet?

We have not seen any reported issue about HANA Studio installation so far and few issues were releated to connecting studio with HANA server. All of them are resolved one they followed our HANA One Guide.

Thanks,

Swapan

Philippe,

If the studio is working, please make sure you added only one entry to your laptop's /etc/hosts after you associated your instance with an EIP. Also please check whether ports 30015, 50013 and 50014 are open for the security group you used within your instance.

Thanks,

Swapan

Hi Swapan,

Here's the port I've opened on AWS

and here's my host file

Hi Phillippe,

Your ports are ok. Please add only one entry in /etc/hosts for your SAP HANA One instance as

54.20.211.190 hanaserver hanaserver.compute-1.amazonaws.com

where 54.20.211.190 is my "imaginary" Elastic IP of SAP HANA One instance.

By the way a promotion on HANA One is currently going on.

PROMOTION- February 18- March 31, 2013 - AWS customers who are new to SAP Hana One on the AWS Marketplace will receive $120 of AWS Promotion Credit if they use at least 10 hours of SAP Hana One between February 18 and March 31, 2013. For AWS Marketplace customers who qualify, the Promotional credit will be sent to the email address registered to their AWS Marketplace account. Restrictions apply; see offer terms at https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/help/201119060 for more details.

right now my string is

Elastic IP + Public DNS

is that right?

Hi Philippe,

Yes, it is either elastic IP or DNS name. But we recommend elastic IP for SAP HANA One.

Hi Swapan,

so right now it's the only configuration for hana on my host file and it seems to be correctly define.

Thanks Swapan!

Adding to /etc/hosts changed the status.

<Elastic IP>     hanaserver hanaserver.compute-1.amazonaws.com

In general, "Yellow" is not a big problem. However, if you want to backup, the "Back Up..." menu item for the HANA db is disabled when yellow. Once the hosts entry is added to the server, all is fine.

Thanks,

Sandy

Sandy,

Yes, if you like to use backup, recovery from studio, you need to add /etc/hosts entry for now. For anything else, yellow is okay as you can perform all development activities.

Hi

The problem you are facing or faced is one of the simplest problem and has already been discussed so many time, for yellow light issue you need to update the LOCAL HOST file in your system, it was not related to bad installation, of HANA studio. I would suggest you to refer the following discussions:

Get your own SAP HANA One, developer edition on... | SCN in this Read Step 4

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-33268 Part 4.

Correct format of Host file is : 14.61.193.24 (Your Elastic IP)    somenameHDB (HANA Server name).

For AWS instance  its  XX.XX.XXX.XX imdbhdb      put your elastic IP and for server name use imdbhdb

Hope it helps.

Regards

Kumar.

One important point that may be missing here is that "hanaserver" is the actual host name that the HANA one instance knows for itself and you have to have that same name in your /host file.

My host file says:

xx.xx.xx.xx hanaserver hanaserver.compute-1.amazonaws.com

Where the xx.xx.xx.xx is the ip address of the instance.

I also add the system to studio as "hanaserver", but I do not think that is strictly necessary.

Hi Kumar,

HANA One Dev Edition and HANA One have different hostnames. So the concept is the same but the way Joe described with hanaserver and HANA One Guide documented, we we need to follow this way for HANA One.

By the way the new HANA One promotion is for only for new users. Here are details: AWS Marketplace Help

Hi Philippe,

Please refer to discussion and particularly follow Elastic IP and /etc/hosts part for your reported issue.

After following the above thread, if you still have problem, please let us know.

Hi Philippe,

Let's isolate this particular issue here. If you are using multiple SAP HANA One (Rev 48) instances and you are trying to connect them from the same desktop with HANA Studio (Rev 48), please remove the connections from your studio which you can add very easily once this issue is resolved.

So, you have now one system (HANA One Rev 48)  added in your HANA Studio (Rev 48), let's see whether we can connect and make it fully functional (Admin, Modeling, etc.). Please make sure your HANA Studio (Rev 48) is installed successfully. You can open your studio without connecting to any server.

Once you have one system added in your studio, please check following three (everything is described in details in 😞

1. The security group you assigned to your HANA One instance should show ports 30015, 50013 and 50014 are open. These are minimum ports needed to make your HANA Studio working with HANA Server. Additionally, we open more ports required for XS Engine, SAP HANA One Management Console. So, once you verified the three ports (30015, 50013 and 50014) are open, go to step 2.

2. Attach an Elastic IP to your HANA One instance and note down the IP of the instance.

3. Now add the following entry to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts
EIP hanaserver hanaserver.compute-1.amazonaws.com
Example:
54.23.113.123 hanaserver hanaserver.compute-1.amazonaws.com
Where 54.23.113.123 is the EIP (Elastic IP) of your SAP HANA One instance. You can add one entry at a time.

Once you follow the above steps, please let me know whether you still have the problem.

Thanks,

Swapan

Hi Swapan,

I've unistall everything on my laptop. and Reinstall Hana Studio.

When I Open Hana studio without any system setup I have the error in my log.

I will continue your steps

Hi Philippe,

It seems to be a new issue. Did you download HANA Rev 48 Studio (64 bits preferred) from your HANA One instance using HANA One Management Console within your browser? if not, please download the official and released HANA Studio Rev 48 software from HANA One instance.

Then before you proceed further, please stop EC2 instance from EC2 Management Console to make sure you are not charged for HANA software and AWS infrastructure.

Once you have HANA Rev 48 Studio software and you stopped EC2 instance, please make sure HANA Studio installation is successful and you can open it without any problem. You should be able to open HANA Studio even if there is no system connected from your studio. When you install HANA Studio, you may choose a different path to make sure the installation is clean. Please use hdbsetup.exe to install HANA Studio Rev 48.

Thanks,
Swapan

HI Swapan,

No,but  i've downloaded the 64 rev48 from the instance trough winscp.

I will try the version from the management console and install it on a different path.

Hi Swapan,

after reinstalling in a new path the hana studi 46 bits from the management console, I have these errors in my log. So it's basically the same thing.

Hi Swapan,

I have Studio installed already in my local, Version 1.0.51, another user in connected to AWS HANA Instance so it is definitely up and available.

1) Added the entry in host file as

<Elastic IP> ec2-<IP>.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com

2) Add system in HANA Studio with user EXTDEV / Password. Tried SYSTEM/manager login, it didn't work as well.

3) Click Finish and getting error.

Windows command line:

C:\Documents and Settings\remraj>telnet EIP 30015

Connecting To EIP...Could not open connection to the host, on port 30015: Connect failed

C:\Documents and Settings\remraj>java -version

java version "1.6.0_24"

Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_24-b07)

Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 19.1-b02, mixed mode, sharing)

Can the company firewalls be the cause of this issue? How do i resolve in this case?

Remya

Hi Raj,

1. SAP HANA One did not release Rev 51. We recommend to use the same version of Studio with Server.

2. If you use SAP HANA One, please add an entry like

xx.xx.xx.xx hanaserver hanaserver.compute-1.amazonaws.com

where xx.xx.xx.xx is your Elastic IP.

3. If you can not telnet as you mentioned, please check your firewall as your network may not allow you to connect to the HANA Server with JDBC port.

Thanks,

Swapan

Hi Swapan,

Thanks a lot for your response. I will re-install Rev 48 back and try again.

In some other thread, it was mentioned to add the host file entry as <IP> imdbhdb.

How is it different from the one you have mentioned above?

Remya,

The thing is that you want studio to refer to the machine using the same name that the HANA instance has configured as its hostname. For HANA One, the machine template is set to have “hanaserver” as the hostname. I believe in the other thread, the hostname on the server was probably “imdbhdb”. I don’t think I’ve noticed that variant, but we often see “imdb” as a shorthand for “in memory database” and “hdb” as a shorthand for “HANA database”.

Best of luck,

/joe

Hi Remya,

As Joe mentioned, please make sure you are running SAP HANA One (99 cents/hr for HANA + Infrastructure cost), not the Dev Edition. HANA One uses hanaserver as hostname. if you are not using HANA One but using HANA Dev edition, you may browse SCN for an answer. Once you SSH to your instance, you can type hostname.

Thanks,

Swapan
