Material Class - Creating new Sub Tabs for Different kinds of Characteristics

Former Member

I have a question regarding classification view in Material Master  :

There is a custom Class "Z8C_MATERIAL_CLASS" of class type "001" material class.

I know that when you usually add characteristics in material class they are listed as a single list in "General" tab in classification view of material master.

But, for this class "Z8C_MATERIAL_CLASS" there are sub-tabs listed in material classification view with characteristics :

Example :

Tab 1 : "GENERAL",  Tab2 : " LABELLING", Tab5 : "Tech SVCS"

The characteristics are listed in different tabs as needed.

Can someone help me with how are the sub tabs "LABELLING" created ?

When I copied the class "Z8C_MATERIAL_CLASS" to a test material class and used it the tabs did not appear.

Thanks a lot for your help. I have attached the screenshot below :

Just stay in that screen in Change Mode.

Then choose from menu  Value Assignment > Characteristic groupings > Create

Enter a name for your new group and decide if you want tabs of pushbuttons.

Click then the execution clock.

Next screen click Characteristics button and select the characteristics you want in your new group.

then save

Thanks a lot Jurgen for the help.

I have tested it and it works for the material in change or create mode.

I have one more question :

This change will be for all the materials that use this class and also for all future materials that will use the class. Is this statement correct ?

I have tested it and works but just wanted to confirm with you one more time.

You have not entered any class when you grouped the characteristics, so it effects even all classes where the same characteristic is used.

That is very helpful thanks.

1> So if I do not enter the class and group the characteristics, system will group the characteristics for all the classes using the characteristics

2> If I enter the class then enter the assignment then it will only impact the class for which it was done.

Thanks,
Amit

No, I meant the whole grouping does not consider the class.

I have for example 7 classes in one material. SAP did not ask me to select a specific one of these seven classes. It just gives me all characteristics from all classes to choose from for my grouping.

Just try it. Create a new class and add a characteristics that belongs to a group

and add another characteristic that is not in the group.

I expect 2 tabs, one General and one with the group name.

Hi,

I have tested the scenario.

Here is the summary:

1> Class A had the grouping and the characteristics.

2> I created Class B copied from Class A with all the characterisitics

3> I created a test material and assigned class B

4> Groupings did not come up

5> For the same class I created another grouping set and it worked.

Jurgen thanks a lot for the help.

Amit
