How to do EDI 846

Former Member

Is there a standard process in SAP ECC or S/4 for handling the EDI 846 transaction?

The EDI 846 contains 3PL inventory levels, and it would be handy if there was a way to take the information from the inbound 846 from the 3PL and match it against real-time inventory in SAP.

There is no standard built-in process for handling an EDI 846 in SAP, but it can be done.

The EDI 846 is essentially an inventory report from your 3PL listing all your inventory and different stock statuses.

The proper implementation of the EDI 846 gives great visibility into the accuracy of your 3PL inventory, and even the causes for any inaccuracies. Simply getting your 3PL to send you an EDI 846 inventory report is only part of the solution. It’s what you do with it that matters most.

A custom-built transaction to match up the 3PL's 846 inventory report against SAP stock overview will help you identify variances and discrepancies, and even help you rectify them - at the click of a button.

It is a guaranteed way to cut down on shipping errors and save your supply chain countless hours of frustration trying to balance the inventories.

Plus, now you can measure your 3PL KPI's in real time - perhaps something they would rather you didn't.

By adding this transaction to your 3PL implementation, you get more visibility into operations with your logistics partner, and a quicker resolution to any inconsistencies that may arise.
