Item creation from an item template

Hello all,

1 ) I have an issue during creation of an item using an item template.

After selecting bucket and item template, i click on Continue and in the next screen, message error " Select an item type" shows up.

I have created the item template (so  it is link to an item type and a bucket) and i set the status "Active".

I also mapped it to project templates thinking it could maybe help somehow... but it didn't !

Any ideas ?

2) I have also an issue regarding creation of a project in PS from a Portfolio item (so without Project management). I have created an item type which is linked to PS Project system and i mapped this item type to a PS project template coming from PS.

I can select the right project template when i check the box "create project on saving", i save, and when i go in PS check the project, i cant found it.

Is there any DFM settings i have to configure ?

Thanks!

Hi,

SAP Note 1984948 deals with this "Select an Item Type" issue. Did you implement this?

Hey !

It's finally working ! We just created a new PS project from a new PS project template, as we did before ( but maybe we missed something the first time) and we linked it to the same item type than previously.

Thank you for your help!

However I'm still stocked with creation of an item from an item template. I'm going to re-check my settings, create a new item template. I let you know.

Thanks again!

Hi,

From what I can gather from your description it seems your configuration is incorrect and you have missing configuration

If you have configured an Item type to 'Link to Project System' then it will not work if you map your item template to Project template as you mentioned above. You will need to map your Item template to PS project - it is an either/or per Item type.

Can you ensure that...

1. You have created a PS template in PS

2. Ensure your DFM settings are correct - e.g. maintain logical system for relevant object type

3.Under 'Map Item template to Project Template OR PS Project' you have either mapped to Project template (this is your current setting) OR Mapped to PS project (this is what you should map according to your Item type setting which you described as linked to Project System)

Hi Chatsworth,

Thanks for your reply.

I think i badly presented my problems. Actually there i 2 differents issues and there is no link between them.  I'm not trying to create a project in PS from an item template.

1) I can't create an item from an item template in PPM :

2) I can't create a PS project from an item using a template from PS (PS template which is link to my item type). If i check the box "create project when saving" without selecting a PS template, it will work.

Basically i have the same error message than here

I have created a project in PS wich is my project template in PPM. I mapped it to the item type (PS project system). I maintained DFM settings for item and PS Project definition.

HI Enguerrand,

I am sorry but cannot help. I have tried to replicate your issue but mine works

Suggest you re-check your config and possibly log with SAP

Hi Chatsworth,

No worries, thank you!

To be more specific for the second point, this what i done :

1) First i defined a new item type :

2) Then I mapped this item type to PS project template (which is an PS project that i have created in PS, but i also tried to use project that has been created from Porject management) :

3) And i finally configured DFM Object link type PS project definition :

Any ideas?

Hi

Can you check that there are no errors during conversion due to PS configuration? You may for example have some required field set on your PS side? Put some breakpoints in and run through the code and see where it fails
