How to change status of email from "New" to "In Process"?

We are getting some mails daily in agent inbox, they come in inbox in status "New". For some reasons, we wish to get them in "In Process" status. Now a way to do this is "Interact" with mail - which will lead to CR creation and then come back without saving new CR. But then "Interact" button will be greyed out. So to get next mail in "In Process" status, you will need to go out of SAP and then login back to proceed.

What I need to know, is there any express/easy way to get this done - be it from IC/backend (GUI)? We actually need to do this on mass mails and that too on daily basis. So need suggestions from this perspective.
