BOE System upgrade/ clustering

Hello All,

I need some recommendations. We have a cluster Prod environment with two servers (diagram attached). I need to add 2 additional servers (cluster -  2 * BOBJ server/  2* Web servers) and after successful installation retire the old clusters. I need to also rename the new cluster environment (server name ) to old server this way users do not have to clear their cache. We currently have 3000  users, and 30+ concurrent users therefore trying to be careful.

In case you are wondering why we are doing this, its because we are moving to new cloud server boxes (Rackspace cloud upgrade) which is apparently cheaper and has better performance. Unfortunately, Rackspace can not migrate the content (DB's) from existing box to new one's.

I need some recommendations, and advice's if its is possible to keep same server names after retiring the old one's. Also when I need to create a cluster environments I will do a fresh installation of BOBJ server on both Boxes and then how should I move the content?

Also need to backup CMS/ FRS DB's prior to this activity any advice's will be helpful.

Once I have setup two cluster environments do I need to move the contents.. CMC/ Objects from one cluster to another. My understanding is that its not necessary since my CMS/ Audit DB is residing in different server and I just need to built a connection and point to it.

Is there is a way to copy configuration from one cluster server to another.

Thank You.

If both the servers in cluster, only point the File store to IFRS/OFRS of both servers. CSMS/Audit DB should be same for both the servers in cluster.

You can keep the same server names as old ones. But make sure you don't turn back on.

One quick question for you. How can you retire old ones before even builing the new environment? You cannot do that. So it is not possible to keep the same server names if they are in the same network domian.

Moving the content- You can use to promote the objects using Import wizard (3.1) or Promotion Management  (4.0).

When you want to cluster, you have couple of options, either select full install on both the boxes or full install box1 and expanded install on box2.

We are going to keep old one's until (2) new ones are fully functional and validate testing. My concern was renaming the new servers to old one's.

We are currently on BOE 4.1 SP 3 P1 and going to BOE 4.1 SP (latest one). Do I need to move all content to new server. If yes, is there a way to move entire content from one server to another server seamlessly without issues.

For clustering what is the benefit of doing full install vs. expanded. We are in a assumption that we need to do a full install on both server.

Thank You.

You can use Promotion management to move the content to one environment to another environment. Promotion Management has some limitation, if you have thousands of objects content, than i would suggest to do it batches, instead of entire content.

If you want to use existing CMS, you can use the expanded install on the server2.

Check the pattern books for clustering.
