BW on HANA Trial - Using BEx Analyzer

Former Member

Hello,

is my assumption correct that it is not possible to use BEx Analyzer with the BW on HANA Trial?

When I try to start BEx Analyzer via remote desktop of my instance nothing happened. Also I found a comment that there is a license problem with micrsoft und that´s the reason why it doesn´t work.

Do you know any workarround to use BEx Analyzer or Analysis for Office with BW on HANA Trial?

Thanks for your help!

Hello Christine,

in the material for the BW on HANA Trial you will notice that there is also a exercise for Analysis, edition for Microsoft Office which starts with installing the software on your local client.

With BEx Analyzer you would do the same and start first of all with the installation on your local clients.

In addition you would then have to open up the corresponding ports for BEx between your local client and the Amazon System.

Hello Ingo,

thanks for your reply. But I´m not sure if I understand your solution right. I have a few questions:

- I work with free trial BW 7.4 on SAP HANA SP08. When I create a new instance there is noch    chance to create an access via private network. So I choose 'public'. The document of this trial discribed the connection to your frontend only by remote desktop client. Another way seems not be possible.

- Is it a solution for me to create a VPC and then an access via VPN or doesn´t work this for an instance with access via public internet.

- What did you mean with to open up the corresponding ports? Do I have to create a security Group for it in the EC2?

I´m a little bit confused about the difference technial restriction between public access and the Access via private Network.

Thanks a lot for your tips!

Christine

Hello Christina,

the private network option will be offered when you setup your AWS account with the VPC settings.

More details can be found in the FAQ section.

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-33673

if you want to use your local GUI you will have to open the corresponding ports in the Virtual Machine settings.

I would also like to highlight the fact, that this is a Trial and that - based on the Terms and Conditions - you can not upload your own data and you can not connect it to your own ERP systems.

see the restrictions here:

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-58120

A trial is there for you to experience the software based on the predefined scenarios.

Hello Ingo,

thanks for your explanations. Now it has to become clear - in particular the restrictions of the trial version.

Now I decide that the better approach for us is to use the BYOL-solutions. But our problem is that we use to have BW 7.3 SP08 on SAP HANA SP08.

This version is not avaible at the moment:

http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-33641

Is it planned to offer this version also as a BYOL-solution? I understand that I can´t use the trial version to create a BYOL-solution - is that right?

Thanks for your reply!

Hello Christine,

if you would like to use your own licenses on any of the appliance you will have to purchase the SAP CAL subscription first.

You can not use your own licenses nor your own data in the trial appliances.

The subscription is offering a BW 7.4 appliance .
