Can we create an info cube over a infoset?

Former Member

Hey Guys,

A little help here.

I have created an infoset over two DSO's with material and plant as a common field with inner join.

I would like to know if it is possible/recommended to create an info cube over an infoset?

also,

what is recommended, running a query directly on infoset or on infocube that as infocube as underlying target?

Lastly, can infoset be used in SAO BO, Information Design Tool?

Solutions from you all is much appreciated.

Regards,

Adrian

Hi,

As our fellow mates(ramanjaneyulu & Arminder) suggested best approach one more thing i would like to add here if you are on BW 7.30 version then no need to use APD to populate data from report to cube.

there is new feature in 730 you can use BW report as source for any data-targets (DSO or Cube) in your modeling.

Hi ,

1) Yes we can create Cube over infoset , but this is not recommended.

2) Query on top of cube is recommended as it is way faster then infoset .

Hi,

Infocube on top of Infoset cannot be created. As it doesnt hold the data physcially and it acts as a view/semabtic layer over the Datasources based upon the conditions and joins.

Its always best and recommended to run a Query on top of Infocube.

Let me know in case if you require more functionalities on Infosets.

Thanks,

Hi Srinivas,

Thanks for your reply ,

I have tried creating a transformation with Infoset as source and Infocube as target .

It was created and activated successfully .

Also on running dtp I have received 6 data records too.

I am working in 7.3 version.

Please clarify are you talking about the same thing or not.

Thanks ,

Hi,

It is very much possible to have an info-cube on top of the info-set and even load data in it. But this is not a recommended practice.

The best way to get this done is to have a report on top of your info-set and then use APD to read the data and populate a DSO. Then build an info-cube and a MP for your reporting purpose.

Hi, i agree with Rama and Arminder, although is not good practice, this is a better solution.

Hi,

we used the MP in IDT tool not info set.

rerely we will go for the info set creation.

we can create the Info set on DSO, MD ATTR using the join conditions

while running the data will fetch form the cube not info set

info set the logical provider and cube is the physical provider.

Thanks,

Phani.

Hi,

Infoset doesn't contains data. So not possible to load data to cube thru DTP.

You can think like below.

Create report on info set and use APD.

thru APD you can load data to cube.

here you need to use query as info priovider.

Or

Check about APD loading data from info set to cube.

Thanks

Hello

1) you cannot create a cube on top of a infoset , but a Multiprovider can be created

2) At any point of the time cube has better performance than an infoset, because cube can use the aggregates, indexes etc.

But in some cases infoset is a good solution if you want to bring two data in one single line.

3) I think there is no restriction in using Infoset queries in BO.
