Memory Full Error when exporting to Microsoft Word.

Good afternoon all,

My client is running into an issue where they are receiving a memory full error when trying to  export to Microsoft Word. I checked physical memory on the workstation and on the server and everything was well below the 30% memory usage. I'm fairly new with Crystal reports and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since you are new I'll be nice... lol

Need to know what version of CR and BOE/BI you are using?

Good morning Don,

Lol Thank you! We're currently running CR 2008 service pack 3. We're not currently using any BOE/BI software, I also checked and confirmed that we didn't have any of these software's running on our servers.

Hi Justin,

Are they using Crystal as a Database Archiving tool and exporting SELECT *.* from Database?

DB servers will always be better at that than CR will ever be, not recommended to do.

So now we need details, how many rows of data, you can see the number of rows being read when previewing the report.

How many pages is the report?

Does the report had images embedded in it, like catalog picture for inventory or something like that?

Office Word will have limitations as to the length of the document. All of the above can cause memory problems.

Another thing to consider is all of this data is stored in memory, so if the users PC had 100's of applications running and using up a lot of local resources CR will be limited as to how much it can handle also.

They may find closing all unneeded app's may allow them to export more data... Eventually htough they are likely going to run out.

Try exporting to PDF format and see if they get the same issue. If that fails also get details on how much data they are exporting and WHY do they need that much data????

After all of that then there only other option is to break the data into smaller pieces and put it back together using Word.
