Install Oracle for EP6 SP12

Hello, I'm new to portal. I want to know if there are any step by step guide to install Oracle specific for Portal (for example: the character set). Are there any things I need to keep in mind when I'm installing Oracle for portal ? What are the hotfixes or patches I need to install ?
