sap bom error: numerical entry is not supported for external item ids

Hello,

When I create a BOM, I give 00000001 as external item id, then I'm getting this error "numerical entry is not supported for external item ids".

My understanding is that we can enter only Alphanumeric values for external id.

Is there any customization settings to enter numerical external id? Thanks!!

Regards,

Saravana

    Hello Kumar,

    As per My understanding

    In Standard SAP

For external, you can maintain any alpha-numeric entry with at least one numeric value. You cannot have numeric values for external item ID.

I hope this information helpful to you

    Hi Saravana,

In the standard R/3 System, the item ID can be assigned as follows:

    • Internally

If you do not enter an item ID, the system assigns one automatically. Internally assigned item IDs are always numeric.

    • Externally

You enter an item ID that has at least one non-numeric character.

So, you cannot type a numeric number and save it.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks,

    Prem

    Hi Saravana,

Please remove the Item id values(external values) and enable recurs.allowed tick mark, then you can create the BOM .

    Thanks,

    HI,

IN OS27 - DEFINE MODIFICATION PARAMETER FOR BOM

Repeated Item Effectivity via External Item ID:

Item ID field in BOM components view can be externally maintained or internally

generated. Once allotted, it cannot be changed.

For external, you can maintain any alpha-numeric entry with at least one numeric value. You cannot have numeric values for external item ID.

For internal, system assigns ascending numeric values according to the sequence the items are entered.

In case of external item IDs, since they are maintained manually, there can be duplicate values. This indicator controls whether system will allow duplicate values or not.

If unchecked, system throws the following message:

Otherwise, when checked, system allows the same.

Note, system will not however, allow the same during creation. It is only applicable when you change the BOM with a change number. Then you can allow the same Item ID used earlier.

IF SOLVED CLOSED THE THREAD BY MARKING CORRECT.

    THANKS WITH REGARDS,

    DINESH V.
