iSQL Login Failed - SQL Server to Sybase Migration Windows 2008

Hi Gurus,

To extend the device space, we are trying to login to the Sybase Database with database users (sa,sapsa or sapsid) we are unable to connect to the database.

When using iSQL to login, we get C:\Users\sidadm>isql -Usa -PPassword -SSID Msg 4002, Level 14, State 1: Server 'SID': Login failed. CT-LIBRARY error: ct_connect(): protocol specific layer: external error: The attempt to connect to the server failed. Environment is correctly set and SQL.ini file made aware through environment variable %SYBASE%. We even tried connecting through DBISQL but the issue repeats. Screenshots are attached to this message. Please note that the import is still running for couple of tables and we have around 30+ failed jobs. Thanks.

    Hi Ashok,

Looks like "sa" user is locked. You may unlock the same using the steps below

    > isql -usapsso -S<SID>

    1) sp_locklogin 'sa', 'unlock'

    2) go

Post this check the results .

      Hi Deepak,

      Thanks for your reply.

Seems the database is in single user mode. And database import is still in progress.

I wonder if there is way to change it to multi user.

Can you help with the steps?

      Thank you.

    Hi,

You might want to try the following first.

From the command line ping the ip address or box name referenced in the sql.ini file.
See if you can telnet into the box and port number of the ASE from the Windows 2008 box.
You might want to modify your sql.ini file to use ip address versus box name it could be a host resolution across the network.
Has anyone local on the ASE box tried to isql from there?
Could be the ASE logs are full and no new users can connect?

    Thanks,
    Dawn Kim
