Configuration Tab objects are overwritten when importing the project TR

hi all

we are using template project for global development from central solution manager  then we have derived implementation project and moved to the local country specific solution manager for the implementation team

the local implementation team is working on the project with the local changes carried out in " configuration " tab by adding IMG objects and relevant configuration document.

the main problem we face : whenever the global team updates the global configuration in configuration tab  by adding IMG objects and documents and it has to be moved to local country specific solution manager for the global updates. we moving using the Transport of copies from the global solution manager.

when the transport is imported into local country specific solution manager , the local changes carried out by the local team  in the configuration tab is getting overwritten. all the local changes are gone. only the global solution configuration objects are available.

these should not be case , the TR should only append the changes in the configuration tab ( like when doing " compare and adjust " functionality )

Does any body had faced these kind of situation and  if so please let me how you have overcome these

Thanks

Sol man

Hi,

a global template rollout shall be done in the following way:

  1. You build a template via a template project in the central Solution Manager
  2. You use the template export functionality in Solar_Project_Admin to create a transport request of the template
You should not use an implementation project in the central Solution Manager and create a transport request from this!
  3. Import the template into local Solution Manager
  4. In Solar_Project_Admin of the local Solution Manager select the template
This will copy the content of the template into your local project
  5. Changes in the template can be brought as described in steps 1-3 into the local Solution Manager without impact on the local project
  6. You can use the "compare and adjust" functionality to update the local project without overwriting changes done in the local project.

You'll find further information in the application help

Hi Michael

what you have explained is the correct way. the only difference in our project is  - until the local country go-live, the local team will use the central solution manager . after the go live only , the local team will use their local solution manager. so that was the reason we created a implementation project in the central solution manager.

the scenario i referred above was after go live of the local project team. can i still export the template file into local solution manager in my case ?

Thanks

Hi,

if you import the template into your local Solution Manager, you can still use the compare functionality to compare changes done in the template to changes done in the copied implementation project since the predecessor information is still available.

Michael.

hi Michael

we imported the template into local solution manager, all the business process available in the template is accessed by the local team which the global team want to provide only the needed business process configuration documents.

what we have done and correct way in our case, we transported the implementation project into local solution manager and copied into Z project. when our changes in the global business process , the local implementation project from global solution manager is transported to local solution manager. then we did compare and adjust with direct predecessor option to the implementation project.

This works perfectly

Thanks
