Hi Experts,
Is it possible to backup and restore only one model of an environment?
I know we can backup and restore entire environment using UJBR but we need to transport only a model from DEV to QAT. We are not using BW transport mechanism to move BPC objects in DEV-> QAT ->PRD landscape. Please let me know if there a way similar to UJBR to do that.
Thanks,
Neha
Hi Gersh,
It is not the first time. Environment where are adding new model is already in prod with other 4 models in it. Years back environment was moved from DEV -> QAT -> PRD using UJBR backup and restore. It is first time we need to make a change in this environment i.e. add a new model in it.
Thanks,
Neha

Thanks Marcelo, Gersh and Andy for your reply.....
I understand that standard transport mechanism would be the best in this scenario but in current BPC system of client which has been working since many year, transports have never been used. Environment where we are adding a new model is already working with some other models in production. So we can not use transports at this point.
Why I am looking for a way to backup and restore new model is, I want to keep technical names same across DEV, QAT and and PRD.
Is it possible that I create new model manually in QAT and can choose technical names as they are in DEV for this new model?
Thanks again !!
Neha

Hi Neha,
Is the model you want to transport in QA already?
Do you want to keep the technical names in QA?
If the model already in QA and you want to use the same technical name then you need to delete the whole environment first.
If not then you can backup restore the the whole environment and delete the unwanted models.
BPC 10 transport system is very well designed, you should try to use BPC transports.

Hi Neha,
I don't think there is a way to do this unless you want manually edit backup file.
Why you are not using transport process? When you say you want to back up & restore just one Model, do you include DM packages, scripts, data files etc. related to that Model or just Model definition?

Gersh

Hi Neha,
I don't know why you're not working with standard transport as it's the best way to accomplish what you need.
UJBR will always backup everything, you can only segment it into metadata, master data and transaction data.
Other than transport I'm not aware of any other supported way to move just a model between systems.
Perhaps if you provide further details on what and why you need to do the other users might have some ideas that are a bit less conventional.
Best Regards,
Marcelo
