How to tracking work done on equipment with before and after meter reads

We are regulated by the State to track and report the type of work performed on a piece of equipment (gaming machine), and we need to capture meter reading data before the work starts and the meter data after the work is completed. We have a defined list of activity codes to track the type of work completed. We also want to have the ability to look at work activities completed on a gaming machine to evaluate the history of the work performed. This work is usually break/fix, not preventative, but it could be preventative. We are being told by our implementer that setting this up in SAP S4 will be bastardizing SAP, this is not what Plant Maintenance was designed to do ... Help! Seems like a very simple proess that SAP should be able to handle.

You can use measurement points/documents for this.

There are a few options, but here are two:

1. Single measurement point: Then create two measurement documents and use the valuation code to distinguish between the two readings
2. To measurement points: one for pre-work and one for post-work readings
