Hi,
I would like to ask you which is the best way to implement BO Dashboards and Crystal reports connecting directly to the ERP without BW.
Searching about every of this options I have the following:
SAP Best Practices come with some requirements and configuration for the general platform + configuration for every scenario. What I don´t see documented is the way of connecting the dashboards, is it really a direct activation by installing the whole package? Somebody has used them?
Rapid Deployment Solutions: I know that to activate this you have the Business Content that has to be activated also in BW, in this case as we don´t have BW, couldn´t be an option, is there a way to use it without BW?
Embedded Analytics: I saw an option to activate analytics inside of the ERP by having the Netweaver Business Client, what seems to creat automatically analytics inside of the ERP.
Do somebody know which is the best way and more detail about activated the dashboards and Crystal reports on each solution.
Thanks in advance and kind regards.
Araceli G:
The best way to connect Crystal to ERP without BW is Crystal Reports 2013 - that connects directly to ERP tables, InfoSets, and ABAP functions.
Which enhancement package are you on? Starting with ehp5 there is a BW client inside your ERP - see
I am not familiar with the Rapid Deployment solutions - lately they seem to focus on HANA Live scenarios
In terms of installing connecting the best content is here by Raf

Hi Tammy,
Thank you very much for your fast response. I see you have a lot of experience in this topics.
I tell you right now I have the package of Best Practices to install but not a system to make testing then I´m going just over a theoretical scenario.
I see in the package the Crystal reports and dashbaords preconfigured but the documentation is not so clear, it seems to have:
Do you know any manuals or information additional that could help on the way to see clearer the integration of all this steps needed? Or about the activation of the Crystal reports and Dashbaords?
Thanks in advance and kind regards.

As far as the integration of Embedded Analytics with Crystal goes, that works just fine (see posts suggested by .
Dashboars is another story... you can make it work through something called BCV (Business Context Viewer), but that only works for BO XI3.1 (and not for BO 4.x). We thought it would be possible to use OpenDocument to call a Dashboard via url into a side panel (in NetWeaver Business Client), but you cannot pass variables unless you're on BO 4.1 SP2 (or higher) and only in well-defined cases. Since we're on BO 4.0 SP7 (and the customer didn't want to upgrade once more) we left the idea of using Dashboards. We haven't looked into Design Studio called via url yet (as we're currently occupied with other "more urgent" setups within BW).

Hi Raf,
We're interested in exploring the use of Analysis for Office in ERP with embedded analytics. I can see numerous references to Crystal and Dashboards, but nothing about Analysis.
We're just about to commence a trial of activating embedded analytics, but would be good to know (assuming you do) if this is possible?
Thanks in advance.
Fiona Mills.
Hey Fiona, I haven't worked with Analysis for Office yet, but I assume you can use a BEx query as a base, right? If so, you're all set! With embedded analytics you can create BEx queries on top of ECC.
The Crystal part you mention is mainly used to "replace" ALV lists by a more "clean" output.
Cheers,
Raf
