Field update rules in Workflow

I was just playing with Field updates rules in Workflow today and wanted to confirm the limitations I have observed. We recently came up against Salesforce and the client was really impressed with the concept of Visual workflow alongside the flexibility of their workflow engine.

Can somebody confirm the following observations?

  • Field update rules are not available for all objects. For example, it can't be used for Leads.
  • Only a VERY VERY...limited amount of fields can be updated via these rules. This is really a joke! For example you can only update "Marketing permissions" and "Industry" for the Account business object. As a customer, I would like to be able to update any field for the account including extension fields.

If anybody from the SAP product team reads this post, I would like to know whether there is any plan to beef up the Workflow engine (the above in particular).....Or maybe SAP will wait until C4C is possibly migrated to another technology platform (HCP?) before improving it?

Hello Thierry,

I just wonder if you got any new information concerning the field update limitations you described in this topic.

No update sorry. This is a product limitation for the time being. SDK development is needed.

I saw a screenshot with improvements for the workflow rules in 1502.

Hopefully the functionality will be extended, I'm running into the limitations / comparision with Salesforce as well.

Hi,

To add to this, when fields of type "Date" are used with the workflow rules, there is no concept of "Is Equal To Today's Date". Instead, it is only possible to select a specific date. There is a way of getting round this and that is to add a bespoke field with logic in which will hold a comparator value, however as standard it should behave against some kind of date range.
