Sybase ASE installation

Hello,

I need to prepare the installation with Linux&Sybase scope.

Database software installation process is done during the installation of SAP system,isn`t?

SWPM stops the installation in the middle to make the installation of Sybase Software in the same way like as Oracle?

Download the installation media from SMP and start the sapinst and the stage where the installer wants the database installation it will prompt you. Most likely the ASE installation will be done using the Sybase installer.

You can check this guide for help.

Additionally read the installation guide for the file system requirements.

Hello Reagan,

The installation guide says "SAP Sybase recommends that you use the GUI wizard to install Adaptive Server" and you are saying that the database installation is made in the middle of SAP installation,,,This is a bit confuse..

In the installation guide there aren't any reference to database software installation.

If you start the sapinst without installing the database at one stage the installer will stop/fail with the message that database software is not installed. This will happen if the installer is not taking care of the database installation. sapinst takes care of the MaxDB systems but I don't expect a similar behavior in case of Sybase. In that case you need to install the Sybase ASE database software using the setup.bin file. In my previous reply I have said that "Most likely the ASE installation will be done using the Sybase installer". Here the Sybase installer is the setup.bin file and you will open a different session and run the ASE installation and continue with the sapinst.
