Hello Everyone,
The architectur eof hana system shows a WebAs server refererred to as XS engine.
I would like to know if this XS is present even in Hana Cloud platform as I read that the applications on cloud are deployed on a lean java server.
I just want to be sure if XS weAs is a lean java server and if hana has exactly same architecture even in cloud except for size of h/w.
Regards,
Pooja M
Hi Pooja,
In HANA Cloud Platform you can run Java applications as well as XS applications. There is a Java and a XS engine enclosed.

Hello Helmut,
So does that mean Lightweight Server=XSEngine+Java Server on same box>
Is this configuration even avialable even for on-premise systems?
What about abap reporting can this still be done in cloud and in this case it would be a .XS project executed by XS engine. No exclusive development like for java right?
Regards,
Pooja
Lightweight server = lightweight webserver on top of the HANA database provided by XS services
Beside that there runs a Java engine (server)
If they run on the same box does in my opinion not matter in the cloud. You buy services not boxes. It's up to the provider to decide which application run on which server as long as he fulfills the SLA.
If you want to run a HANA system and a Java server on your on-premise systems I would suggest that you run two machines. One with the HANA system and one with Java server. I can't emagine that it's a good idea to run them on the same machine but I'm not an infrastructure expert.
ABAP reporting is still done in your on-premise R/3 systems or your R/3 systems that run on a virtual server in the cloud. You can connect them to the HANA cloud platform via the SAP HANA Cloud Connector.
Thanks both for the response 🙂

Hi Pooja,
no, XS WebAs != Lean Java Server.
In the cloud (HANA Cloud Platform) you may have both enabled: Lean Java Server is running on your application VM, while XS engine is part of HANA system which in running on the database VM. Your Java application will be deployed onto Lean Java Server on your application VM; native XS application onto XS engine on the database VM. Nevertheless both application type may share the same persistence or other services.
Best regards
Xu
