Hi Gurus!
I have a scenario but don't know how to implement it.
My header material is configurable and has 3 semi-finished components under it. One of the semi-finished component contains a BOM with 2 raw materials, but this component is not configurable. I mean my model has a multi-level BOM but single a single level configuration. I want to implement an assemble-to-order manufacturing process for the header material. The component with 2 BOM items is manufactured in-house and the other semi-finished components are procured externally.
What kind of planning strategy should I use at the header level and should I maintain any special planning strategy for the non-configurable assembly?
I am new to SAP and also to variant configuration. So please give detailed explanation.
I have read the Planning strategies in the link SAP Library - Demand Management (PP-MP-DEM) but it is too confusing to me.

Hi Thileepan
The strategy for the finished product depends on your business requirements. The most common strategy is 25, where the configurable material is planned as a make-to-order material, that means, procurement starts when the sales order is created. See the link below for details
SAP Library - Demand Management (PP-MP-DEM)
If the components are not configurable and if you want to plan them without an assignment to the sales order individual stock, it's not necessay to assign any strategy. Just set the field "individual/collective" of the material master to 2.

Thank you for the links. I got a few more questions after reading that.
1. In order type settlement profile which order should I check? I am creating a sales order (OR) for a configurable material in MTO strategy 25. In that case should I check "SD1 Sales Order MTO Production"? If so, am I looking at the right screen (refer screenshot below) and are the settings correct in my system?
2. As you have mentioned in the other links. Is it fine to make changes in material valuation in OMS2? Have you come across any situation in which this change has led to other inconsistencies?
Thanks and Regards,
Thileepan
I am a student working on my master's thesis and am implementing variant configuration in my university's SAP system, which is not used for any kind of production, it is used only by students for their academic courses.
My main problem is I am new to SAP and I have to learn and do the implementation in all the modules MM, FI/CO etc, and I am a beginner in all these modules so, no one to consult here.
BTW could you please help me with point number 1 in my previous comment.
Thanks and Regards,
Thileepan P
Hello
I understand that you are a student trying to lear by yourself, but please observe that this is a space for SAP consultants to discuss issues related to the component PP - Production Planning and Control.
If you have questions related to FI/CO or MM, perhaps you should ask on the proper space.
Best regards

I will make the change in OMS2 and reply back. One final clarification.
As you have mentioned above, I can use strategy 25 without any strategy for my components if my product has only non-configurable components. Does this work for non-configurable assemblies also, because my product has a non-configurable assembly in the BOM.
