hi

I had been in and out of SAP projects many times, in between projects when I sprinkle my resume with too much of PP skill stuff,I will be getting calls from recruiters and end up with a job within a a week or two, but when I sprinkle my resume with APO skills relegating PP to the lower pedestal, frequency of recruiter calls comes down twice  in a month may be ,Why is that recruiters like PP dominated resume though you may have APO skills,I have heard from delivery managers out of 10 projects that we fetch 9 will be manufacturing projects ie PP projects ,1 will be an APO project .

Experts am asking you your comments on my observation out of sheer curiosity.

thanks

Hi Rahul,

In general since the planning can also be done in R/3 system, which is why not every project which has SAP R/3 implemented will have APO also.

Majority of the SAP implementations involve R/3 modules (PP, MM, SD etc) as it's your execution system which is required for all organizations. APO being the advanced planning tool, only those who want to leverage it's additional planning capabilities implement it.

then again sharmaji  planning in R3 doesnt consider capacity, its infinite,so we normally take it via PDS to PPDS for resource planning vs quandities .and then publish it back to ECC from SCM..there in R3 capacity is taken as seperate step with ,CM15 through CM25 screens..can you think of an alternative wherin quantities and capacities can be planned simultaneously in ECC itself

RO,

Standard PP/DS material planning and capacity planning are also normally taken as separate steps as well.  Only using optimizer or CTM can you consider material constraints (MRP type planning) and capacity constraints simultaneously in a single solve.

ECC currently has no equivalent of optimizer or CTM.  In ECC (and in PP/DS) you solve for one type of constraint (material shortages), then you solve for the other type of constraint (capacity shortages).  In all cases, when you solve for capacity after creating the solution for material shortages, it tends to degrade the quality of the material solution.

Hi Rahul,

No, the material and capacity constraints can not be planned simultaneously in ECC unlike what is possible in APO. Our expert DB49 has already explained the same in detail above.

well DB ,it should be unbelievable but its true,I asked one ABAPer ,to penetrate into SAP source code and alter it (add some extra coding) so that available capacity installed in the company and the materials be placed on capacities compactly without any gap ,so that MD01 delivers a PPDS optimizer equivalent of production planning run,and that he is blessed with high IQ level,he inserted one button in MD01 screen itself as " capacity scheduling " (all materials across the planning horizon )and the planning results are getting close to the line of victory.if my team succeeds then my team has invented something that we will be blessed by all SAP users including experts like you .

RO,

I am happy that your programmer has satisfied your requirements. .

Your definition of 'PPDS optimizer equivalent' sounds quite a bit different from mine.  But, in the end, if the businesspeople are happy, then nothing else matters.

I anxiously await your publishing of at least an overview of this solution in a blog or other SCN document.  As you say, other users should find your solution very useful.

yup DB ....probably it is ignorance- I overreacted to simultaneous planning, from your input i drilled down into CTM screens ,I could see the solution is well in place ,i need not have to strain my nerves with injecting an algorithm in MD01 ,in the settings i could see- run CTM for PPDS orders- ,that will solve my problem.thanks for your timely intervention
