Data Provisioning in SAP Hana CLoud Platform

Hello Everyone,

Can anyone please let me know which data provisioning/ replication methods can be used to load ECC data in hana instance

on cloud hosted by SAP.

(Developer's account to be precise).

If not SAP Developer's account offered by SAP any other service provider.

I would just like to know the methods supported out of the following:

1)SAP LT Replication Server (SLT)trigger based)

2)SAP Sybase Replication Server (SRS) Log based

3)SAP Sybase Event Stream Processor (ESP)

4)SAP HANA Direct Extractor Connection (DXC)

5)SAP Sybase SQL Anywhere (Data Synchronization- Mobilink)

6)SAP Data Services (DS) with ETL .

From what I have read only data services  with etl is supported with trigger based SLT for SAP DB's.

Kindly respond.

Regards,

Pooja M.

Hi Pooja,

I am currently working on a summary factsheet for data provisioning possibilities on HCP which will be published in the coming weeks.

I tried following possibilities to replicate data from an ECC Suite system into HANA DB on HCP (there are certainly more, basically each DB replication tool which uses ODBC/JDBC to the target DB can be used):

* HCI DataServices - this data integration service is integrated directly into HCP; however, it can't be used on trial (i.e. for developer accounts) as it is currently only provided on the factory landscapes. If you should have an account in one of the factory landscapes, we can provide you with a test access to HCI DS.

* SAP Landscape Transformer (SLT) - SLT supports real-time / trigger-based replication and is well suited if you want to replicate from ABAP systems into HANA and you have STL already in use for other scenarios. To use it for replication into HANA DB on HCP, you need to establish a database tunnel (see SAP HANA Cloud Platform). This tunnel is right now only available via the neo command-line, but it will soon be integrated into the SAP HANA Cloud Connector and is then useable also for productive scenarios.

* SAP BOBJ Data Services (DS) - DS can be used as well in combination with the mentioned DB tunnel; it provides rich ETL capabilities.

* SAP Sybase SQL Anywhere and MobiLink - can be used to synchronize data from many remote databases into a consolidated database on HCP; we already use it for a pilot and if it is successful might productive it. Externally, it is currently not useable as it requires a MobiLink server on HCP.

Hope this helps a bit.

Best regards,

  Timo

Timo,

Good overview.

Will there be a matrix in this overview which will help users decide which technology is appropriate for which scenario?

Thanks.

Hi Dick,

yes, we will try to give recommendations to which scenarios which data provisioning option fit best in this factsheet.

Hi Timo

I have a question for you:

Do we have the trial program for the HCI-DS service now? I want to try load data from op to HCP. I want to use it with the HCP trial account.

Many thanks!

Hi Timo,

you mentioned in your post that the creation of the tunnel would be integrated in the HANA Cloud Connector. Is this done already? If not, do you know when it will be released?

Thanks,

Hi Gustavo,

I can confirm that the tunnel possibility is already integrated into the HANA Cloud Connector.

But please be aware that we still see some connectivity issues with the cloud connector (tunnel stops working from time to time - e.g. from Azure to HCP data center - and it has to be re-established to work well which the cloud connector doesn't do automatically)

Hi Timo,

is your factsheet already available?
