Oracle Upgrade 10.2 to 11.2 in HP Unix

Dear Expert,

We are  planning to upgrade our Oracle  from 10.2 to 11.2 . This is a totally new activity for me.

I have completed the most of pre-requisite as per downloaded also GUIDE_UX_ORA_UPGR_112_400 from SMP.

Reading this guide; get few doubts and query:-

Is it required install oracle client ?

And are there any utility to use for upgrade client and how to use?

System Details:-

SAP Version - SAP ECC 6.0 EHP 4

Oracle DB - 10.2.0.5.0

OS- HP UNIX 11.31

Kernel Release 721 - patch level 201

Download the software:-

51042930 - ORACLE Client 11.2.0.2

51047693_1 to 8 - Oracle 11.2.0.4 RDBMS HP-UX on IA64 64bit 1/8

Yes. As you perform Oracle release upgrade from 10 to 11g

And are there any utility to use for upgrade client and how to use?

You need to use dbua script to perform the upgrade. It is delivered with the Oracle software.

Thanks for prompt message.

Could you please just confirm that whatever i have downloaded software is correct? and dbua script is available with client - 51042930 ?

Because i have extracted the 51042930 in HP UNIX but i cant found the said script. Is it possible to download separately?

Oracle client should be updated as well.

Oracle client is a set of files. You just need to extract the OCL11264.SAR file for HP-UX and use it.

The Oracle upgrade guide contains the steps to install the client software.

Hello RB,

I have unzipped the oracle client 51042930 and then extracted the OCL11264.SAR files in HP Unix.

But there are only below files are extracted -

adrci

wrc

genezi

libociei.so

libclntsh.so.11.1

ojdbc6.jar

ojdbc5.jar

ojdbc14.jar

libnnz11.so

classes12.jar

SAPIC_README

libclntsh.so.10.1 -> libclntsh.so.11.1

libclntsh.so -> libclntsh.so.11.1

libnnz10.so -> libnnz11.so

Where I will found dbua script and how to use this script?  Please guide

Hi Ajay,

You need to download the RDBMS DVDs from below path

Oracle" Database" ORACLE 64-BIT" ORACLE 11.2 64-BIT

Based on your your requirement you may select relevant DVD set.

Suggest would be to go with latest 11.2.0.4

Yes I have download the same.

51047693_1 to 8 - Oracle 11.2.0.4 RDBMS HP-UX on IA64 64bit 1/8

Now I login thru orasid then run the dbua scripts but when its prompt for me select the database available. But there is no any database are available for select?

Is there any version of DBUA scripts and shall we use old script in client 10.2.0.5?

Hi Ajay

After downloading the DVDs please follow the steps as mentioned in the upgrade guide.

Major steps would be

- install ORacle 11

- Apply latest patches

- execute dbua from the path specified to start the upgrade.

For installing the Oracle 11g client software –I have unzipped all files of oracle software 11G 51047688.

But how to execute the command to start the installation of oracle client?

Copy the extracted files in /oracle/client/11.2

Please guide me steps

Dear Venakt,,

I have done the steps as per note 819829.

Made a directory  - /oracle/client/11x_64/instantclient_11204

Extracted the OCL11264.SAR in to above folder

Created a symbolic link - ln -s instantclient_11204 instantclient

But output of genezi –v is showing the old version:-

sidadm 23> genezi -v

Client Shared Library 64-bit - 10.2.0.4.0

System name:    HP-UX

Release: B.11.31

Version:        U

Machine:        ia64

I did this activity after stop SAP & Oracle.

Anything is missing?

Create this additional symbolic link as mentioned in note

819829 - Oracle Instant Client Installation and Configuration on Unix

ln -s /oracle/client/11x_64 /oracle/client/10x_64
