The environment variables are basically set during the installation by the installer.

... Envs are defined as user specific variables for the standard user <SID>adm.

How the system get's it's environment variables is a little different from the standard way and described in SAP Note 31559. In this note it is also described how to set additional environment variables - depending on the scope needed for them.

Depending on the database vendor used the SAP System specific environment variables differ.
These variables and the membership in several user groups (also depending on the DB-Vendor) are needed to run SAP-(mostly command line)-tools in the correct configuration.

Therefore it is currently not recommended to use any other user than <SID>adm to perform basic administrative tasks on the SAP Systems.

Hi,

The environment variable helps in pointing out location of software and binaries.

When you execute any command, the users current environment is checked where to look for that command.

Refer: https://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/e7/4fb2a8ee10294dbb23378a23e84e46/content.htm

And sap not 1524205.

How to set any environment variable on windows - just do google.

Pick the installation guide and map the variables with it. If it's working fine then you have them coming from profiles and environment.

I wanted say that you should check standard environment variables and profile parameter.

Applications that arw using profile parameter might not need environment variables however brtools and other applications will need them.

For eg. Run r3trans -d will fail if oracle environment variable is not set.
