Hiding object in UNX universe

Former Member

Hi,  We are using BI 4 SP7.

We have recently converted UNV universe to UNX universe.  There are some hidden objects in UNV that are used in reports it is fine with UNV.

After converting UNV to UNX, those reports are failing because of the hidden objects. If we un-hide them then report is working fine. So there seems to be change in behavior of UNV and UNX.

Our universe will be used by others to create ad-hoc/custom reports. We don't want to have these objects to be visible to those report creators. Is there a way to hide some objects but still use in reports.

Is it fine if we hide the classes in IDT for specific users ??

So that , they won't be able to view class\objects in adhoc report.

How can we hide classes for specific user ? Note that we still want to that user to have access to these objects in standard reports. Only in Ad-hoc reports we don't want user to have access or visibility.

We can hide the objects in IDT only for adhoc reports. Try this approach:

Hi, I have tried it.

I created a business security profile and denied access to specific objects for a user.

Objects are restricted to that user in Query panel, this is fine.  But that user is not able to access these objects in the standard reports. Below error is thrown when i tried to refresh the report.

"An internal error occured while calling 'processDPCommandsEx' API. (Error: ERR_WIS_30270)"

Is there a way to enable access to objects for all users in reports but not Query panel ?

I added tried by adding 'ALL OBJECT' access in Display Data tab but it did not change anything.

Hi,

With the Release of XI 3.1 Fix pack 5.1 a new parameter was created to remove the hidden metadata objects that are no longer needed.  This cleans up the hidden files and reduces the size of the universe.

Use the following steps to implement the parameter.

  1. In Universe Design Tool
  2. Import the universe
  3. Go to FILE then PARAMETERS and select the PARAMETERS Tab
  4. Add CLEAN_UNIVERSE and set Value = Yes
  5. Click Add
  6. Click OK
  7. Save the universe and export to the CMS/Repository
  8. Close the universe
  9. Import the universe.

Thanks for the reply, but I want is something different.  I don't want report creators(specific set of users/groups) to use some of the objects while some other users(different set of users/groups) be able to use these objects.

Hi,

Perform this to resolve the issue:

-Activate the parameter  AUTO_UPDATE_QUERY which is set to NO to YES so that hidden objects gets removed automatically when refreshing the report

-Set the parameter to YES in Business Layer and in the Data Foundation

This behavior is design change for unx.

AUTO_UPDATE_QUERY=Yes would remove the objects from the report.  What we are looking for is way to hide the object and still be able to use them.

This is by design behavior if IDT(unx).

Hi, Is this possible to achieve it by other means i.e using security levels ?

1. Have report view access to all objects for all users

2. Have universe use access to only specific set of users.

I tried using object Access Level, but this is not allowing view to objects used in reports.  Is there a way to enable view to all object but restrict object access universe level ?

hidden objects present in reports used to work in BOXI3.1, but actually they are not meant to be used in the report.
