SAP ERP 6.0 SR3 installation

Hi All,

I am planning to do SAP ERP 6.0 SR3 ABAP central system fresh installation on AIX & Oracle.

Currenlty I guess we can only use SWPM (70SWPM in my case), after the installation of SAP ERP 6.0 SR3 ABAP, I need to restore the native oracle backup from an existing ERP 6.0 system onto the new system for a new proj reqmt.

In the existing system there is no ASCS whereas if I install using SWPM there will be ASCS generated, in the installation guide there was a note mentioned if we do not want ASCS to be included during installation

"If you do not want to install the ASCS instance, you have to prepare the global host."

Can you please let me know how to approach in this case?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Dipam I tried using 70SWPM10SP05 I was able to see the database and central instance alone.

No ASCS was used, only with 70SWPM10SP06 ASCS PAS and DB instance are shown.

Hi Team,

The issue was resolved by below steps:

-->Giving <SID>adm user the full auth to DB

-->Using older kernel version as the kernel version downloaded was newer than the source system.

Balagi,

ASCS is for HA setup - even though you copied your database from HA system you can perform system refresh to without HA. Use SWPM - instead of HA system copy option , use nornal system copy option.

SWPM with create your skeleton ( all file systems and users etc ), after that restore your DB.

Thanks,

Dipam

Hi,

My source system is not of HA set-up. I am thinking of options other than system copy using export/import procedure also backup restore cant be done as we dont use brtools backup we use native rman backup.

So planning to do a fresh installation and will ask the DBA's to restore the source DB on the new installation.

And I am unable to proceed with the installation because SWPM provides ASCS and primary appln server with the installation whereas in source we have the normal single instance central instance available.

Please help to find a method if we can install using SWPM and not use ASCS by making changes on the global host??

Hi Balaji,

When you select Central system installation under SWPM it will not install ASCS.

Hi Deepak,

Could you please confirm?

I am planning to install ERP 6.0 SR3 with NW 7.0 SR 3 using 70SWPM, I ran SWPM to check and when I selected central system I got info that ASCS ll also be installed?

Is it OK to proceed? Can you give me any reference to OSS notes?

Hi Deepak/Dipam,

I need to do a fresh installation on ERP 6.0 SR3 AS ABAP Central system installation where in I can see ASCS also getting installed, see below the attachment for I believe only from NW 7.3 ASCS gets installed can you kindly clarify.

I do not want ASCS to be installed as later I have to restore the native backup from a source system with the same release and this should not cause any issue.

It looks to me some thing wrong with your SWPM. I have user 70SWPM10SP04_4-20009701.sar SWPM and I got the following screen ( without ASCS ).

Please download the latest SWPM or the above mentioned one and try.

Thanks,

Dipam

Have you tried to use backup based import of the system?

Hi,

I had done system copy with import of source system, successfully,

This is quite easy, also i installed newer kernel on destination server.

No you mean export import system copy? That requires downtime which is quite impossible.

So trying to avoid the downtime by following installation of target and restore the backup from source.

Unfortunately I am stuck now.

The traditional backup restore cant be done as the here they follow native backup using RMAN.

Any thoughts on how to "If you do not want to install the ASCS instance, you have to prepare the global host"??

No, i mean only import with the option "database backup".
