I am working with identification point for my WH.I went thru the SAP documentation in which they have provided an example ,

SAP Document - For example, if you have assigned the ID point storage type 011 to storage type 010, when you attempt to store goods in storage type 010, the system will automatically send them to ID point storage type 011 first.

Instead of doing this if i assign proper  storage indicator in the material master it will directly place the material in in storage type 011.

Then in what way identification point is helpful?

Hello,

In the example, ID point is 011 and your actual storage point /area is 010. You don't have to assign any indicator for ID point 011 in material master. You perform all the storage type indicator assignment in material master for your final storage type 010 only. The example in SAP document says that, ID point 011 should be assigned to storage type 010 in storage type configuration. And if this is done then material will placed to storage type as per below sequence.

902 as intermediate area of inbound-------> 011 as ID point-------> 010 final storage type.

One important concept why ID point has been introduced ---------> If you bypass 011 ID point then your final bin from 010 storage type will be reserved for put away. You can not use this bin for any other material. You will have to use this bin for same material or you can change the bin only during confirmation of TO.  Whereas if you use ID point then you have no bin assigned/reserved for final put away because material will be in 011 storage point with Bin number as quant number. This way you have choice to use any bins for other put-away of material. This is optimal utilization of warehouse bin concept.

ID point and Pick point are useful when you have a handshake in between two resource for the same pallet/ resource

e.g.

Suppose you have a rack in which operation is being managed by Fork lift, due to some restriction Fork lift can move in between the rack now you unloaded a truck with pallet load. so to transfer the pallet from the unloading area to Rack there is a two step transfer one from 902 to start point of rack and from start point of rack to final bin position

MHE(Hand pallet truck) operator picks the pallet from the unloading point and drop the pallet at the entry point of the rack and then from Entry point fork lift operator picks the pallet and store at the suggested location.in that type of scenario ID point is helpful.This can be co-related in such type of scenario (AS/RS), Converyor related operation etc

So the place where the material is kept is not the final storage type(011) so it is always moved to another storage type am i right?Is it mandatory that it has to be moved from 011 to another storage type or it can be also issued directly from 011

011 is an intermediate location hence it is not advisable however that decision is totally based on your business operation.Please refer my earlier reply related to pick point. you can find that we don't define the Picking strategy for the Pickpoint hence i am not sure whether system is going to propose the picking by any logic (never tried that earlier)

As Manish said, in stock placement settings for storage type, you can define an ID point, which will be used as an intermediate location during putaway process. You can leave the goods in 011 or create a TO for transfer to the original destination (010 in your case).
You can use it selectively - if you require moving it to 010 you can use LT09 or if not, you can leave it in 011.

In the picking process, you can use pick point ID, which serves as a buffer when you have complete removal of SU's. You can pick what you need and the system will propose to return the rest of the quantity to this pick point. Then you will be able to process the actual putaway of the remaining qty to your storage type(s).
