global service startup on EP 6 SP12

Hallo,

I'm facing the issue that my global service won't come up after portal restart on SP12. I just upgraded from SP11 to SP12 and observed this problem. Below my portalapp.xml. When I reconfigure my service after portal restart, it is loaded, so it seems that it is only loaded on demand even though there is startup=true within the portalapp.xml.

Any hints or ideas?

Regards

Christian

portalapp.xml:

    <application-config>
        <property name="SharingReference" value="usermanagement, knowledgemanagement, landscape, htmlb, exportalJCOclient, exportal, com.sap.portal.runtime.application.soap"/>
        <property name="startup" value="true"/>
    </application-config>
    <components>
    </components>
    <services>
        <service name="my.service">
            <service-config>

                <property name="startup" value="true"/>
            </service-config>
        </service>
        <service alias="my.webservice.WebService" name="my.WebService">

    Hi, please try to implement the interface IAutoStartable. This should trigger the service to start during KM startup.

    regards

      Hi Dieter,

      I thought the startup-property beneath <service-config> is responsible for starting the service at runtime startup and makes therefore an implementation of IAutoStartable kind of obsolete. I'll test your tipps immediately tommorow and give you feedback.

      Thanks,

      Christian

    Hallo,

    sorry for coming back to this issue a bit late but it is solved now. Thanks for your tips though they did not solve the problem. The problem in my installation was that the ClassLoader of my Service did not register properly at some point. The portal swallowed up on my app, perhaps, because of the quite frequently redeployments. What I did for solving the issue is the following:

    - Remove app from pcd

    - restart SAP by sapstop, sapstart

    - deploy my app again and there we go.

    During development I always removed the app from PCD before a redeployment and restarted SAP (or server0) from time to time but this wasn't sufficient as it seems.

    The hint for implementing IAutoStartable was a good one by the way. It did not solve the problem but helped with the further development.

    Thats it,

    regards

    Christian
