Restricting Access to Folders

Hi,

  • (1) I have created a Folder named -  ‘Test Folder1’ and ‘Test Folder2’
  • (2) Created group ‘Test Users’ and added user – ‘TestUser1’ & ‘TestUser2’ to the group
  • (3) Created a Custom Access Level  ‘Test Access level’ and Added right’s
    1. Log on to BI Launch pad and view this object in CMC.
    2. View Objects
    3. View Objects that the user own

Once I have followed above three steps, at the Personal  folder level for the ‘Test Folder1’ , Right Click & under the User Security – I have added the group ‘Test Users’ and assigned the ‘Test Access Level’

Also went to ‘Manage>Top Level Security’ and added the ‘Test users’ group & ‘Test Access level’

Question: When I log into the BI launch Pad as ‘TestUser1’ - I do see both ‘Test Folder1’ and ‘Test Folder2’. How can I restrict the access just to view the ‘TestFolder 1’??

It's obvious that you see "Test Folder1" and "Test Folder2" when you login as "TestUser1" because both the users were added to the same group "TestUser" and granted custom access level "Test Access Level".

I'm not sure about your complete requirement. If you want the "TestUser1" to view only the "Test Folder1" and not "Test Folder2" and vice-versa for "Test User2", I would suggest you to create one more group and add "Test User2" to this new group and assign your custom access level to the "Test Folder2".

To make it simple:

Test Folder1 should have

  • TestUser group with access level as "Test Access Level".
  • Make sure that you have only "TestUser1" in that group and not "TestUser2".

Test Folder2 should have

  • "New" group with access level as "Test Access Level".
  • Make sure that you have only "TestUser2" in that group and not "TestUser1".
  • Remove "TestUser" group from your "Test Folder2" security or make it as NO ACCESS.

Hi,

Check if you have set the No access to everyone on ‘Test Folder2’. or in the Top level security again check the rights setup for Everyone.
