Hi Griselda

If SUM needs kernel 7.21 then yes you need to update your kernel first. You can update the kernel using SUM as well if you want to make life easier / ensure necessary steps are executed: http://itsiti.com/update-sap-kernel-using-software-update-manager-sum

You don't need to do anything else for Java in that case, just update the SAP Kernel using SUM and then afterwards calculate your stack using Maintenance Planner and run SUM again to update your landscape. This should then also include other updates if needed like SAPJVM for AS JAVA. You'll need to push button to include Java patches in Maintenance Planner, otherwise you won't automatically have those included. It's recommended to include Java patches for SAP Solution Manager in your stack update.

Best regards

Tom

Hi Tom,

Many thanks Tom for reply.

I have:

Unicode Solution manager 7.1, SP stack 4,(abap+java stack) , Kernel 7.20; and I have to update to SP stack 15.

I need to run SUM (SP18) to do it, but the SUM tool requires kernel 7.21 .

So my questions:

1) First , Have I to manually update kernel from 7.20 to 7.21 before run SUM tool?

2) If I have to update the kernel, In dual stack system (like my solution manager) it is enough to replace /sapmnt/<SID>/exe for the new kernel?

Or I have to replace java kernel?

3) For dual stack system, is the kernel for abap the same for java kernel?

Many thanks again

Hi Griselda

SP4 is the latest available SP stack?

Not sure I understand your question here.
