Kanban for stock replenishment

We're in the process of implementing Kanban for material replenishment using stock transfers.  Everything that I've read states that one must create a Kanban storage location, one that is separate from your standard.  Why not use your standard or regular SLoc's and just use kanban functionality?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

    Hi Jim,

For stock transfer KANBAN you need to have 2 storage locations but these are regular storage locations. Usually it would be one sloc representing your line and the other one (or more then one for different cycles) representing your warehouse. You assign the receiving storage location in your supply area and the source storage location is placed in control cycle.

Your KANBAN box that is located next to your production line when scanned to EMPTY can generate reservation for movement 311 between your storage location for warehouse to your storage location for line.

Note one thing: If you use SAP R/3 in version earlier then ERP 6.0 the sloc you use in supply area CAN'T be managed with WM. This restriction has been removed in 6.0.

    Best Regards,

    Tomek
