Getting into SAP Basis Administration

Former Member

Hi,

I am interested in getting into SAP BASIS Administration. I am currently working as a Windows System Administrator and have been in the IT industry for over 10yrs and looking for a change somewhat...i have very little programming experience, just some scripting here and there. How difficult is it to get into this area? I live in the U.S. Any companies willing to hire someone for entry level BASIS position or mentor? Thanks.

Hi Zylan,

We welcome the thought of moving to SAP World..

SAP BASIS administration does not demand for any programming experience, its more of a technological area focused on Server management, database management etc. More details can be provided by our BASIS experts in this forum..

To get in to SAP, either you have to attend SAP training from recognized institutes or get experienced in a company where SAP is used.

Since you are completely new to this area, it is always recommended to attend the training.

Ravi

Hi Ravi,

What classes are required? And how much? Are there SAP authorized training centers in every major city or do the loal colleges teach them also? I've seen other posts from people who have no IT background getting into this area . So essentially, i have to start over just like them? Thanks again.

Hi Zylan,

You can refer the below SAP website for authorized training centres in your country.

https://training.sap.com  (Visit 'Training locations')

And for details about BASIS, you can refer the below post (especially refer reply from Kiran Kumar).

http://scn.sap.com/thread/3184501

As I had said earlier, if you wish to start without training then you need to be part of an organisation where SAP is implemented.

Hi Zylan

We're going through almost the same phase. But the only difference is that I have already started SAP Basis. It's an amazing course and you'll like it as you have prior IT experience. Look up for online training sessions because that is what I'm currently doing. It's cheaper that others and give you the (almost) complete knowledge of the course you applied for. But be careful!!! There are a lot of trainers out there. And when I say a lot I mean A LOT. Take a few demo classes before you join one.

But if money is no object and you want quality education then follow Mr. Ravi's advice. Locate a SAP partner in your state and go for it.

All the best!!

Hi Zylan,

Try to get SAP Netweaver Basis Administration certification or SAP HANA Administration certification.  Try to connect HR or consulting companies through linkedin who normally post ad in linkedin share.  Also, just register in Dice and other US job portals who can help you to get into SAP Netweaver Basis Administrator.
