SAP DWM Vs EWM

Dear All,

We are into food and snacking business. We are already using SAP distributed WM (DWM) and now we are contemplating whether to implement EWM or not.

Can anyone give insight if we can do that and why? Is there any big benefit to implement EWM. What functionalities EWM can provide which DWM can not.

I believe EWM is quite similar to DWM.

EWM is completely diffrent to DWM - new technology but also new processes.

Maybe this link will support you in finding a decission:

Hi,

"Dezentralized" WM is very different from EWM, EWM offers much more functionality (and somewhere there is a presentation for it). The question is: why do you think about changing to EWM? What are you missing in WM?

Hello,

We are coming up with new greenfield project which means setting up new plant with best state of technologies. So EWM is one of the consideration. We are not changing the DWM for the current plant but for new plant which would be our largest plant and warehouse center.

So we are trying to analyse the benefits of EWM over DWM. Any suggestion or any docs which i can refer to.

Many thanks

Hello,

There are many functionalities which are provided in SAP EWM, which are not in DWM, like POSC, Yard Management, Labor Management, Material Flow System. So, this all depends on the business case for SAP EWM implementation. All the above mentioned functionalities are highly advanced in SAP EWM. For eg, with EWM, coupled with SAP PCO and PLC simulator, you can completely automate the warehouse. I would recommend you to study the business requirement, and then analyze if you can meet them with existing WM solution or you will need EWM.

Thanks and regards,

Hi,

ok, that is of course different then what I understood, I thought you want to replace your existing system.

Rico gave you a good link in his answer below, still it is a decision to be weighted, there are a lot of new things you have to deal with when you use EWM, but the nice thing is that all works in parallel, so you do not have to change anything in your existing DWM.
