I would like to verify if the Materials created in MM are extended on the PM automatically? or we also configure material master in PM separately?
Thanks and God bless
Greetings Peach,
As a rule = yes. The Material Master data belongs to the MM module, but in the intergrated SAP ERP system, it is referred by multiple modules. So the Material Masters used in MM are also used in PM as:
- Work Order components for consumption (stocked and non-stock)
- Task List components (stock)
- Bill of Material reference objects and items (stock & non-stock)
- Maintenance Assemblies (IBAU - not a stock item) to denote a construction type
- Refurbishable materials (stocked)
- Reference materials for Serial Numbers (stocked)
Generally, the Material created in MM & Logistics should be extended to the Plant Data view on the Plant level in MM01 to be usable in PM, and for Costing, it also needs an Accounting view.

Yes Material master is used in all SAP R/3 modules although it is added as part of the MM module
With respect to the link between material and Equipment in PM
Equipment in PM can have a direct/indirect link to the material in the material master as per the customizing done

Peach, One liner answer, "Material is created in MM and is used across module",no special handling required for PM.

Hi Peach,
MARA is the table where material master resides for whole of SAP.
