How can we extend the validity period to the commodity codes?

Hello All,

i use to get the error as " Item XX number XXXX( commodity code) is invalid as per the definitive date ( ( 13.01.2017)

when i checked in the product master, the validity period is upto 31.12.2016 ,can any one suggest how can we extend the validity period to this commodity code
