Hello
About one week ago we updatet our sapgui version from 7.2 to 7.3.
Lately we noticed some problems with sap sessions closing automatically after few minutes!
Could this be somehow related to 7.3?
Basically we have random users at random time when their sap gui just closes by itself.
Does somebody else have this problem as well?
Thank you
Hi Myrtha,
We haven't seen this problem with our SAPGUI 7.30 installations. There could be many things responsible, and it may not have anything to do with SAPGUI itself. To troubleshoot this you're going to need more information. I suggest you turn on tracing with one or more users where it has been happening and see if you can capture some information that might help analyze the problem.
Open up the SAP Logon Options:
Then go into Traces... SAP GUI Traces and activate Level 1: Errors. Do the same in SAP Logon Traces: activate Errors. Also click the button Delete All Trace Files to make sure you are starting fresh and won't be confusing old trace files. If you click Open Trace Folder you'll see where on the computer the traces will be stored. It's usually in %LOCALAPPDATA%\SAP\SAP GUI\Traces (or, C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\SAP\SAP GUI\Traces for a Win7 machine).
Once you've had it happen to a workstation with tracing enabled, hopefully that will provide more clues about what is going wrong.
Regards,
Matt

Hi All,
I work as IT service desk. It seems that this thread is already out of date, but I think I will share my experience anyway. I don't know whether this is the same problem or not. But what we have here is when we try to login to one of group/server the logon interface close instantly.
I tried to search the internet for the answer, and happened to stumbled at this forum. No answer but it gave me some useful information, which is the trace tools. I used this tools and compare between SAP gui 7.20 (which still worked fine on our computer) and the 7.30. What I found is that ver 7.30 load .dll files that have belongs to Microsoft Office software. And after I check again, the computer that had problem with 7.30 version, had two versions of Microsoft Office installed (we have so many computer here and mostly the software was installed by deployment, and it seems the installation/upgrade were failed on some computers). After I remove the older Microsoft Office, the SAP 7.30 works just fine!
I hope this helps or at least give some clue.
Cheers
Irham

Hi,
I joined the community just because of this problem. It makes me crazy. In the office, we discussed it many times and I want to share my colleague's theory regarding the possible cause: Using some keyboard shortcuts while working with Excel may close SAP.
We're on Windows 7 Platform and have Excel 2010. We work with multiple Excel workbooks and multiple SAP windows. Keyboard shortcuts that we use: Alt+Tab, Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V and Windows+D. Then suddenly SAP kills itself. I want to emphasize that no other programs than SAP, Excel and Outlook are running in my computer when this happens.
Since I'm not a programmer, I can't find the background processes. But I hope this clue may help SAP experts who read this threat.

Hello Burcu,
Do you get any notifications before the screen dissapears?
SAP Office Integration uses Microsoft#s OLE Technology. If there is any
limitation with Microsoft then the same will be cascaded to SAP. The
reported issue is a fundamental problem of OLE2.0 process management.
Simultaneous editing of Word documents is not possible as #Word# is not
a multi-client server. Though multiple Word documents can be displayed
in different windows, only one instance of the application is ever
started. You may cross verify this by opening the "Task Manager" when
multiple Word documents are opened. You see that only one
"WINWORD.EXE *32" exist for all of the Word documents open.
Sending several parallel requests to the same application may result in
malfunctions. This not only concerns work with MS Office applications in
connection with the SAP Desktop Office Integration but also simultaneous
work with several documents of same MS Office application in general.
Please refer to the following notes for more information:
159499: Problems in the context of SAP Desktop Office Integration
(point 13)
176642: Simultaneous editing several Office documents
As this is a known limitation of Microsoft technology used with SAP
Office Integration not much can be done. Nevertheless we suggest you to
use the following workaround for this issue.
- When two Word documents are opened in two different SAP GUI sessions,
while editing the Word document in one session, ensure that the Word
document opened in another session is in "Display" mode, and then edit
the document. Perform "Save" operation by clicking on
"Display <-> Change" icon rather than using "Save" icon. By Clicking
on "Display <-> Change" icon the Word document is saved and mode is
changed to "Display". Now when you try to edit and save the Word
document in another SAP GUI session the crash does not occur.
Hi,
thank you very much for the answer. But this is a very new issue. We didn't encounter in the previous months, or last year. We switched to Office 2010 in March and after that we didn't have any issues at all actually. This problem just started, if I'm not mistaken, at the beginning of the summer. So I don't know what changed, but something has changed:)
I'll try the workaround and give feedback to you.
Thanks again.
Hi,
we are facing right now on some workkstations after the upgrade to 7.3 exactly the same issue as you were describing. Have you been able to find a solution in the meantime?
Thanks in advance.

What is the OS and computer (dell????) of these stations?
Keep in mind that most of the time this "spontaneous exit" is related to network problems. But not always. So please check your connection sapserver/client first.
Frustrated as we still are, we haven't solved this yet. Lots of loggings but no clou.
Strangely this problem seems to solve itselfs over time.

Hello Karsten,
Is there a popup message before the session is killed?
If yes, can you take a screenshot.
If no, which from your description that it only happens to some users, could be a corrupt gui installation, reinstall the gui by first removing it,rebooting the OS,then run an install again.
Jude
Hello Karsten,
It's definitely not a network issue.
Can you please raise a message in BC-FES-GUI.
I recommned that you follow the note http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1387962
and ask for an upload link for the requested files.

Jude and Karsten
The problem discribed by Karrsten is the same in our site. Reinstalling and even rebuilding a PC from scratch doesn't solve the problem. It stay's away for some time but returns, not directly but later.
We are thinking that there is a relation with some functions in SAP. But repeating the steps a user did just before the Gui pops out af existance, won't repeate the problem
henk
In this case,Henk the http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1387962 note needs to be used

We haven't seen this behaviour in SE16 or other standard programs. It's one of the subprograms of NWP1 or NP10 from IS-H. Industrial special Hospital.
Yes all kids of upgrade and patches are installed. We think it's indeed video / html related.
When disabling the clear type font it seems to be less.
But keep in mind that the other problem "spontaneous exit" of the saplgpad/sapgui also occurs.
No message, no error nothing just plain exit
Even SAP can't help us anymore so we are kind of stuck
I have tried to analyse the problem with BMC apsite (from SAP) but SAP could not find the error
What could be the best way of tracking this?
What we have planned next is a complete by hand installed W7 pc, so plain standard and see what will happen
Henk
PS was the video playable?

Yes, the video worked. It was difficult at first, with all the blurring, to understand what was going on, but then it became obvious how the columns and fonts jumped around.
For the random "spontaneous exit" issue, have you been able to capture anything with a SAPGUI trace, as I suggested to the OP? We never heard back if that worked for her.
Please install new available patch and try again.

We seem to have the same problem with the SAPGUI 7.30 sp8+hotfixes. Windows 7 32 bit computers. Without any notice the saplgpad/sapgui exits, with no informational/warning/logging/error what so ever.
We upgraded the SAP GUI to the latest patches but the problem remains.
Also users with two screens connected to there pc using several sessions experience another weird problem. We have called it “dancing fonts”. Suddenly the characters on the screen get bigger and smaller at a high rate when one hovers the mouse pointer over de characters.
We have tried all kinds of combinations of theme’s and characters in the SAPGUI.
Until now the combination of the described phenomena does not appear.
Any idea’s
Jude,
Yes the two display's are identical and identical configurated,
I have a video but I'll have to look if information can be seen from it. get back to this asap.

i'am very sorry but the film contains Patient information. When possible i'll find some way to blurr it. But until now it can't be posted.

Very odd. We have SAPGUI 7.30 pl8 hotfix 1 deployed pretty widely now, across a variety of machines running XP and Win7 (both 32-bit and 64-bit). Many of these have multiple monitors. In fact, I'm using it now with three monitors, and I frequently have multiple sessions open. We haven't seen anything like this.
I am using the same resolution on all three monitors, and all three are using the default resolution (they are LCD monitors). I do have users who don't use the default resolution (usually because they don't know about making font sizes larger, so instead they detune their monitors and ruin their eyes by staring at fuzzy fonts), and I have a small handful with differently-sized multiple monitors. I haven't had reports of this kind of problem from them.
What we have noticed is that some things do not work as expected when using the older themes (Enjoy), usually for someone who has upgraded from an older GUI and kept the same theme. It wasn't the problem you are describing, but still it did seem that the older themes were not fully compatible. That was on an earlier patch level, though, and since then I changed the upgrade script to reset everyone to the default (Signature) theme, so everyone's on the same level playing field. Since then there haven't been problems of this nature.

I managed to blurr the recording and if possible to upload you'l find it.
You see a mouse pounter moving over de columns and around 27 sec the columns start to behave abnormal. The seem to move just by hovering the mouse over the columns.
At 49 sec putting the mouse pointer in a specific position of a column (at the border of two columns) the whole screen (i think the grid space) starts to move. The rest of the screen remains.
Found it https://picasaweb.google.com/114598126989802327054/Public_space?authuser=0&feat=directlink
This way i can controle it
henk
Hello Myrtha,
If your SAP GUI session terminates abruptly (saplogon.exe does not respond in the task manager), please ensure that you are using the latest SAP GUI patch level
If the issue persist, you will need to create a Support incident and supply an ADPlus trace as described in note 1387962
Kind regards,
Eric Van de Catsije
