How to see the content of SAP Idocs

Hi,

I'm new with XI and Idocs, and we want to see an Idoc filled with some test data to confirm if it's the right Idoc to our needs.

To do that we need to publish it to other SAP machine or do we have another way to do that?

Can you guys help me to understand how it works, or suggest a document/link useful to help us this Idoc analysis?
