OLAP Prompt Screen - Default Settings?

Former Member

Is there a way to default the OLAP Prompt screen to have the settings Show All and Expand optional prompts enabled?  Right now as our system is setup every user would have to click two extra times just to get to the point where they can begin entering their prompt values (if they aren't required, which defaults to Shown and Expanded).  I couldn't find a setting anywhere in OLAP that set these as a default, even after I turned them on and saved the report it kept going back to only showing the required fields expanded.  Thanks.

Hello Jonathan

Please refer to section 7.6 of the Analysis OLAP Administrator Guide.

There is a property in the mdas.properties file "multidimensional.services.prompt.dialog.show.all=false" which should be changed to true.

This will display all prompts. You will still need to do "Expand All".

The current behaviour of defaulting to "Required" only (which are expanded by default) and not showing "Optional" prompts (which are collapsed by default) is based on customer feedback and significantly simplifies the prompt dialog.

Another way of optimising prompts is to use variants (these are created within the prompt dialog). Each user can set up their own varient (or use public varients) and they can also choose one to be a default.

Hello Ian,

Once all prompts (required and Optional) are shown; is there a setting that would make them all expanded by default?

Thank you.

Djawad.

Hello Djawad

Sorry, there is no option to display all prompts expanded.

By viewing and expanding all Required and Optional prompts, we return to the bad old days of how we used to present prompts in previous products. It was through extensive design sessions with customers that we arrived at the current design which focuses on the required prompts and automatically expands them (because you must fill these values to continue).

We became aware of some users who wanted to at least display all prompts by default so we added a property so that the prompt dialog defaulted to show the All tab instead of the Required tab, but at least this still only expands the Required prompts... which helps to reduce complexity and highlights which prompts must have values.

If your users want to expand all optional prompts, this can be easily done by one click on the "Settings" icon on the right of the Prompt dialog and choose "Expand optional prompts".

If your users are regularly using the optional prompts then maybe there should be consideration to change these to required prompts? However a more flexible solution is to make use of the Variants feature in the prompt dialog. Each user can define their own prompt values for each AOLAP workspace and set the variant to be the default when they open the report. That way each user can just populate the prompts they need without having to enter their values each time they open the report.

Kind Regards
