AIX upgrade 5.3 to 6.1 EHP5

Hello All,

In our environment we are planning to upgrade AIX 5.3 to 6.1.

Currently we have

Oracle 10.2

SAP ECC 6.0 EHP5.

Would like to know can we do inplace OS upgrade. I mean on same hardware where current sap is running. OR do i need to do system copy and install current system to new hardware. Would be good if we migrate to 7.1.

Kindly post your suggestions. Would appreciate if some one can guide me detailed activities/procedures need to be carried out.

Hi Kranthi,

As per SAP note 1458918 - Support for AIX 7.1

Oracle 11.2.0.1 or higher is supported on AIX 7.1

Your current DB version is 10.2 so you can upgrade to AIX 6.1

Refer to SAP note 1137862 - Using SAP systems with AIX 6.1

This note will help you to decide upto which TL level on AIX 6.1 you can upgrade with Oracle 10g.

As far as I know Oracle 10G does not support AIX 7.1

If you want to go for AIX 7.1 then upgrade the database to 11G and setup the system with a supported kernel for AIX 7.1

Else upgrade the AIX to 6.1

You can get the AIX upgraded on the same box.
