Former Member

Hi,

Any idea on how to import BW Bex query into hana studio?

Has any one tried doing this ?  Is this possible?

I can able to import DSO's into hana studio but I couldn't find any option of importing bex queries.

Kindly share if you have any documents on how to leverage bex queries in hana studio.

Regards,

Antony Jerald.

Hi Antony,

do you need to have the actual Query?

You can expose the Composite Provider itself as a HANA View.

Check this blog (and the video) for details on how to do it:

Blog: SQL Consumption of #BWonHANA Data and Models | SAP HANA

The video is using the new BW Modeling Tools for Eclipse, BTW, but you should be able to achieve the same with RSA1.

Hi Henrique,

Thanks for your reply.

I went through the demo video, it was useful.

But we are on SAP BW 7.30, with Hana version 1.70.  I think, SAP Gui needs to be upgraded to 7.40 to leverage composite providers, BEx queries from composite providers.  As this supports with 7.40 Correct?

Also, could you please give me visibility on what are all the new hidden features from SAP BW 7.40?

I read new features of SAP BW 7.40 Part I to 4 documents.

Came across Hana analytical process, open ODS views, etc.

Composite providers are available in 7.3x:

Creating CompositeProvider in the Analysis Process Designer - Analytic Engine - SAP Library

But they were immensely improved in 7.4, and will continue to be.

I'd suggest for you to upgrade in your next available window.

As for BW 7.4 details, there is plenty material on saphana.com.

Hi Antony,

In 7.30 you cannot do that as I mentioned earlier. You have two options either upgrade to 7.40 or remodel you scenario.

Hi,

Would importing Bex query into Hana studio would be the best practice?  What would be the advantage and disadvantages of importing bex query into hana studio?

Could you please clarify me on this?

Because, I've a sales bex query without any variables, hard coded with filters, and which i've imported into hana studio,

Following are my observation from RSDDB Tcode:

I could observe Index size and Database table size were large.

It seems that new records would not be updated and every time we've to keep building indexes when ever new delta data record gets updated.

Correct me if I'm wrong.  Plz clarify my doubts.

Hi Antony,

Yes you are right regarding understanding of importing Bex Query into HANA.

The reason for SAP to give this option is if user have already spend lot of effort in creating query and he wants to consume the same in HANA easily.

If the data changes frequently and if you want to access the newly changed data then this shouldn't be the option because you have to re index every time.

Thanks & Regards

Hi Dinesh,

At the beginning of the post you provide two options, in both options will be the same behavior :

" If the data changes frequently and if you want to access the newly changed data then this shouldn't be the option because you have to re index every time ".

And one more question, in version 7.4 sp7 we don't have the report "rs2hana_view_query" , can we implement some SAP Note which will provide the report ?

Hi Denis,

No Both options are not the same in First option you need not to re-cerate index if the data changes but for the Option 2 its needed to create the index if data changes.

I am not sure its available via note but its available from BW SP8 onwards.

Thanks & Regards

Hello,

instead of using RSDDB indexes of Query as InfoProvider, starting from BW 740SP8 you can expose the Query directly as a SAP HANA view, no need for replication.

Hi Antony,

I am not sure is there any ready made document available but i know the solution please check the details below:

You have two options

Option 1: If you are at 7.40 SP08 and the Cube or DSO has a generated HANA view then in that case run a report  "rs2hana_view_query" HANa view gets generated.

Option 2: Create Query snapshot index via RSDDB--> Quey as infoprovider Tab --> Release Query as infoprovider -->click on create button. --> SAP HANA/BWA Settings Tab -->enable the External HANA Repository view -->Activate and fill index.

this will generate HANa view.

Hope this helps.

Thanks & Regards

Hi Dinesh,

Thanks for your reply.

But I've a Bex query on composite provider.  But this option ' query as infoprovider' is disabled.

We are on SAP netweaver 7.30, BW on Hana, SP 09, with hana DB 1.0.70 version.

Please find attached snap shot.

Hence, we are not able to import this query into hana studio.  Kindly suggest how can we do this.

Hi Antony,

In that case you cannot do it . You have re modeled it in different way then.

Thanks & Regards

Hi Dinesh,

While filling up indexes, I didn't find External SAP HANA Repository view.

this will generate HANa view.

Rather, I'll go to hana studio client and manually import the Bex query for hana analytical view.

How does it different in your case?  Are you using some other different version?

We have SAP GUI 7.30, SP 09, Hana 1.70.

And what is the software requirement for this ?

Also, is there any better way of approaching this method?  I could find a manual effort of recreating this index every day.  Even scheduling doesn't work.  Does SAP Provides any solution for this?  Kindly suggest.

Hi Dinesh,

Can we also import hierarchy constructed in BW and consumed in BEx query to the analytical view of hana studio?  Currently I couldn't able to construct hierarchy and couldn't import as well. Please suggest.
