How the Drill down functionality works if the source is Bex Query

How the Drill down functionality works if the source is Bex Query through the query browser in Dashboard 4.1

Thanks for your prompt response.

In my scenario I have  a pie chart and Column chart.Base on the selection in pie chart the column chart would be reflects. But source for this dashboard is Bex query and the version of BO BI 4.1.

Please suggest me the suitable solution to overcome the issue.

Hi Sai,

In your Scenario you have to create 2 queries in the query browser.

design of the queries:

Query 1: In this query you bring all the objects required for your Pie chart, for example Year and Revenue.Bind the cells to excel or directly bind pie chart to query 1 and enalble the drilldown in behaviour tab now insert to aexcel cell for example cell A1.

Query 2:

Now create query 2 bring all the objects for example Year, Qtr & revenue and put Year as a prompt.

Bind this pormpt to Cell A1 and check the box "trigger when value changes".

Now take a column chart and bind the values from excel sheet or directly from query 2.

Hi sai,

Drill down can be done by two ways.

1. you need to bring all the data in one shot to the spreadsheet and then by using the components you can achieve it. Below given link explains in detailed about that.

2. you can use different set of query to pass the value from one set to another to fetch the data using the prompt. please check the below which explain them.

Hi SaiRam,

In Dashboards especially when data is coming from BeX queries we can drill the data in 2 ways

1) Based on the Navigation paths defined at BW level, through the Hierarchy component available in Dashboards 4. It looks like a spreadsheet component.

2) Based the no.of drilldowns we have to take the queries for example if we have 3 levels then we have to take 3 queries. Lets take an example of Yr >> Qtr>> Mnth.

Here Selection of Year should be prompt value for the Qtr and Selection of Year and Qtr should be a prompt value for month.

In this scenario we have to design the queries in the query browser.

Hi Sai,

If you are connecting to BEx via query browser, you would need to create separate queries. First query would bring more aggregated data. When user drill down based on certain parameter, second query should refresh that would bring in more detailed data.

The selection from Query 1 should be passed as filter value for Query 2, and trigger should be applied on Query 2 so that when the user makes any selection Query 2 should refresh.
