    Hi Zhiva

What do you prefer: programming, data modelling or system administration (i.e. Oracle). You quite a diverse technical background. Each one of those options there has a very different path in SAP

    At a high level:

    • System Admin - look at Basis. You may be able to leverage your Oracle skills to join a company that uses SAP
    • Programming - a few options but with Java you could look at SAP PI and integration. Then there is also ABAP
    • Data Modelling/BW - that leads to SAP BW/BI, Business Objects and then you could look at HANA (not only BW but a start)

There is on right but more what's right for you. That's a decision you have to make based on your skillset and interests.

What interests you are about SAP?

    Regards

    Colleen

      Hi Colleen

      Thanks for your suggestion!

After few thought process, I am thinking that I would like to get into Functional side

and get more knowledge and experience on it. I have been in Technical role for the past 10 years and have domain knowledge on Banking, Retail, Government, HR Product related Industries. So may be as time goes on I might think about ABAP/BI etc.

Now I need to find which training centers are available in USA to get some demo training and then deciding which course to take. If anyone can refer a training (preferably online) it will be helpful.

For Functional side I have the below modules in mind..

      SAP HCM

      SAP CRM

      SAP FI

      SAP MM

      SAP SD

Let me know your expert suggestions if I am in the right path?

      Thanks!

In SAP, you will find two types of module

    1. Technical

    2. Functional.

Technical : Its based on programming/coding. If you choose technical module, then you have to do coding as per the business requirement. You will get the module like as ABAP, Web Dynpro etc etc..

Functional : Its based on Business Process. If you choose functional module, then you have to do work as per your business process.

You will get module like as MM SD FI etc etc.

You have 10 years experience of domain knowledge (Dotnet,Java, SQL, Oracle & BI tools like SSIS,SSRS)

I don't think it is anything related to SAP ERP package..

So choice is yours. At first, read about SAP and its all modules, get an idea about all modules in Google.

Then choose one module at initial stage, then after getting experience, you can choose integrated modules.

Best of luck for your career.
