SAP GUI 7.30 Font Colour is Grey

Former Member

I'm testing SAP GUI 7.30 Compilation 3, patch level 9 and I've noticed the font colour in the 'Connections' tab is grey. It almost looks 'greyed out' - although the connections all work fine. On the other hand, the font colour in the 'Favourites' tab is black - as it was in SAP GUI 7.20.

Has anyone else noticed this - and is there any way of reverting back to a black font colour without changing the entire theme?

Hi Keith,

The 'greyed out' look for listings in the Connections tab of SAP Logon usually indicates that it is a connection defined as 'read only', not modifiable by the user.  This might be the case if you are using a centralized saplogon.ini that an administrator has defined globally for your organization.  Depending on how it's been configured, you can actually have a mix of connections, those from the global file that are 'read-only' and greyed out, plus your own individual 'custom' entries (saved locally) which will appear black/normal and are completely modifiable.  Everything in Favorites would by definition be in this latter category.

Matt

Yes of course - you're correct Matt. We have indeed started using centralised ini files and it is merely those 'Connections' which appear greyed-out. As you say, anything cached locally, such as 'Favourites', are the normal black colour.

The trouble is, users will think something amiss if their 'Connections' suddenly appear greyed-out. As such, I'm now pondering whether it's possible to change the greyed-out appearance in any way. I've been playing with .css styling of the saplogontree.xml - but alas it doesn't want to play ball.

Thanks for your help Matt - it's saved me much time.

Glad that helps.  We've been rolling out a centralized saplogon.ini at my site, and so far no one has commented about the greyed out color, so I didn't even think about that.  I did get complaints from the developer team, who naturally have more systems in their list than others (I have four different saplogon.ini files, based on which group a user is in), not about the color but about the fact that I chose different display names for the systems than they would have, and they couldn't change them.    I pointed out that they could always create Favorites using whatever names they desired, and that mollified them.

Incidentally, I've just tested SAP GUI 7.30 Compilation 1, patch level 8 - that does not display grey text in 'Connections' tab - it's black as I would expect.

So, the problem/feature of the grey text in 'Connections' tab has been introduced somewhere between 7.30 Compilation 1 patch 8 and 7.30 Compilation 3 patch 9.
