WO Order types can be assigned to Value categories.

While creating PM order with appropriate Order types, value categories will copied to PM Order (WO).

Not possible to assign WO to Value categories at WO level. WO is transaction data, Value categories will be configuration details.

can you please explain the first part in more detail?  "While creating PM order with appropriate order types, value categories will be copied to PM Order (WO) ?

Regret for the misunderstandings. I have mentioned "assigning to order types" by considering Valuation Variant.

Value categories can't be assigned to order types as well. Its based on Component (PM or PS) & Controlling Area. All the corresponding order types will refer the same Value categories.

in other words, the only way to connect the Work Order to a Value Category is via the Cost Element? For example WO is settled to a Cost Center and that Cost Center is assigned to a Cost Element which is assigned to a Value Category?

Value categories will be linked to Cost Elements / Cost Element groups. But this cost element is having no link with settlement cost center.

When you book Internal Labor Cost, then cost element which have been assigned to Work center Cost center (in costing tab) will come into picture.

When you book External Labor expense, G/L which you mentioned at service level, will be used in Value categories.

When you book material, G/L Consumption account based on Material valuation class & OBYC settings, will be assigned to Value categories.
