How to change UWL to POWL in SRM7

Hello All,

            I got a scenario where the shopping cart UWL should be totally changed to POWL as we are upgrading from SRM 5 to SRM 7.Can anyone help me in this issue

                      Thanks for the info. I have a requirement where the home page of SRM 7 shopping cart which is in UWL needs to changed to POWL.I am attaching the screenshot of it

By default we are getting UWL which needs to be changed to POWL.

Other issue was that We should hide the Settings link for some users. Only the Super Users must be able to see the link.Where the changes need to be done exactly.

Hi

You cannot just decide to use POWL instead of UWL, they are entirely different technologies.

POWL is the personal object worklist primarily for searching and processing of objects like purchase orders etc

UWL is portal technology delivered with the Portal installation and is configured to connect to the various systems to pull in workflow/approval documents

You cannot decide to use one or the other, the only reason you can use POWL technology in the Inbox is in the circumstance where you do not use Portal, i.e. NWBC. Then use of UWL is not possible and POWL is used to render approval documents.

             My Query is right now we are upgrading from SRM 5 to 7.After the upgrade the Shopping Cart Portal should be POWL and not UWL .Is it possible ???

Hi,

No, unless you are somehow insistent on using POWL technology for inbox rather than UWL.

If you want IBO Inbox, you need to activate NWBC and go with portal independent framework.

This is a big choice not to be taken lightly and should be discussed by your team.

With regard to upgrading from SRM 5.0 -> 7.0. This does not change the technology used for approvals if you are still using portal, POWL does NOT  replace UWL, nor are they in any way comparable. They are two very different technologies.

          I discussed with my team and we want IBO inbox.Can you explain the procedure of installing POWL.???.Highly Appreciated if you could send me in mail(kgkawrthik@gmail.com) regarding the procedure.

Hi Kawrthik,

There is no specific procedure for this, it means you have to opt as a business to use Portal Independant Framework (NWBC) as your UI, then IBO classes will handle the approval.

Well, as far as I know, the IBO can be integrated in the portal environment. And with NW7.31 it supports an multi-backend environment. Inbox (CA-EPT-IBO) - SAP Library

As such, it is suited to replace the UWL (and in my very personal view provide a far better usability).

I'm no Portal-Expert, so I can not provide a detailed way to include the IBO into the portal.

I would suggest to just add an corresponding iView for the IBO in the Portal and then disable the UWL. It should be not that kind of magic after all, as I know quite a lot of customers that have done that.

Hi,

SRM 7.0 still uses Universal worklist for approvals, the exception to this is in the Netweaver Business Client where the POWL technology is used to render the approvals using the IBO Inbox feeders, this also assumes the switch is set for this in customizing to use NWBC. Hello,

Could you please elaborate little detail what exactly you are trying to solve with SRM upgrade? UWL is nothing but the Universal work list which approval sees in their Inbox.
