About CVOM?

It seems the CVOM library is going to be a big part of SAP's BI visualization future. How does its use and functionality differ from developing extensions with the core Lumira SDK? Does it only make Lumira extensions portable to other BI tools? Where can I find detailed CVOM Lumira documentation?
