Newbie Error - SAPInst

I am a newbie when it comes to SAP and attempting to install SAP Netweaver 7 with EHP 6 and honestly a little frustrated and confused. Firstly, I downloaded the Installation Guide for the specific version and also the installation media list. The total download of the Installation Media was 40-50 GB.Firstly, the media numbers listed could not all be found in the download center. However, I think I have got the majority of whats needed. Here is a summary of my system (this is my own sandbox to learn and is a single server landscape) -

• Windows Server 2008 R2 as Hyper-V Guest
• Am using MSSQL Server on the same Guest
• The parent machine is the AD domain controller with DHCP enabled

I have completed the MSSQL install. In everything I downloaded there was no SAPInst.exe file. Arrgh!!!!!  So I downloaded that separately,

• SAPINST7202_14-10009474.SAR
• SAPINSTGUI7202_14-10009474.SAR

Then used SAPCar to extract these. When running SAPInst.exe I get the following error -

Daniel - I have not downloaded the SWPM yet. See question I asked Deepak....does it require Internet Access to complete the installation? Or can I perform an offline installation with it?

No, you don't need internet access. Just download SWPM and an appropriate SAPCAR for your target system, exctract with SAPCAR -xvf ...SAR.

Also, once I have this installed can I upgrade it to EHP6/7 directly? Or does the Netweaver get upgraded separately first??

Its depends on your requirement. if it fresh installation you can select the version NW7.4 ECC 6 EHP7

or you can install NW 7.3 ECC 6 EHP6 and then upgarde to latest

and also refer some of the SAP Notes

Hi Jacob,

As you downloaded all the DVDs from the SAP site, you need to extract all those zip files and group them together based on DVD number and description of DVD on SAP site.

Locate DVD which has name Installation Master or download SAR file for SWPM based on your requirement

Software Provisioning Manager 1.0 is offered in two variants:
 70SWPM10SPXX*.SAR => Software Provisioning Manager 1.0 SP XX for NW 7.0x

SWPM10SPXX*.SAR=> Software Provisioning Manager 1.0 SP XX for NW higher than 7.0x

Extract the above SWPM file and execute sapinst from there.

Sriram - So I have all the media for EHP7 being downloaded now. Question - Does NW get installed under the hood automatically?

Deepak - Does the Software Provisioning manager require to access the Internet after it is downloaded to install everything else? I can download and copy the SWPM to my VM but the VM itself has no Internet Access. The host machine does. Does that matter?
