Dear Narayana,

Seems to be the .patch_storage directory is corrupted. In other words, somebody or some tool deleted some files from this very important dorectory. If you have any OS backup (filesystem) you may copy these files back so you can save yourself from an Oracle Software deinstallation and reinstallation. If you do not have any OS backup available you must perform a deinstallation and reinstallation of the Oracle Software according to note 1525025.

Maybe this is what you didn't want to hear, but the sooner you start prepare yourself to this action the better is.

If any other alternative way will be used to repair the .patch_storage to Oracle Installation will become UNSUPPORTED and you can not get any support from Oracle. Means from SAP as well.

Hey Janos,

If this is the case I would suggest him to rsync the ORACLE_HOME with other system in landscape, so that he can get all the Oracle binaries as earlier and he can continue with his patch update.

The error is selfexplanatory:

“”Archive Action: Source file "/oracle/GN0/112_64/.patch_storage/14309390_Aug_2_2012_13_50_45/files/lib/libserver11.a/ktfb.o" does not exists.

"/oracle/GN0/112_64/.patch_storage/14309390_Aug_2_2012_13_50_45/files/lib/libserver11.a/ktfb.o" does not exists.

Copy files from another Oracle Software is not a wise idea. Even if this would work, it is an unsupported way. No one could predict what would happen later on.

Deinstalling and reinstalling the Oracle Software is the most easiest and quickest supported way.

Hi Janos,

Copy files from another Oracle Software is not a wise idea. Even if this would work, it is an unsupported way. No one could predict what would happen later on.

I said to rsync the file systems not to copy specific files, If you rsync the file system (Oracle_home) it syncs all the binaries without any difference between source and target. It doesn't require uninstallation and re-installation of Oracle.

Deinstalling and reinstalling the Oracle Software is the most easiest and quickest supported way

I did this rsync even on new systems where Oracle was not installed, it worked all the times without any issue.

Never mind - It is just another solution to resolve the issue and not to challenge

Hi Nick,

No sweat.

Using rsync requires some OS level backup of the Oraccle Software I think. Since this copies files from one location to the other, but very quickly. This cane be used of course, but I don't recommend to use it if not the same oracle Software is used for this purpose as a 'mirrored' backup.

If there is one single simpe tiny deviation between the two patch storage, then this action will not help at all.

Of course, sometimes copying the oracle software and some parts of it, will work. But we must not forget that such an action is not supported by Oracle/SAP. If it turns out that the Oracle Software had been copied sometime in the past, customer can loose the support. Means only, SAP support will not help. This is what I wanted to share, because it is a good to know.

I leave it to Narayana which option to use. They are good.

Cheers,

János

Hi Janos,

All are valid points that you have mentioned

But still rsync is not just a copy process it syncs all the online changes as well so by the end of activity you get everything same as source. Since *ix platforms just use file and the links (no registries), it is quicker and better solution to build new systems (again if you are comfort).

I did this to build new systems as well (non-prod systems), it can be done for SAP(instance) too.

Yes - Option selection is Narayana's.

Hi,

As said above, update OPatch and MOPatch with latest available and follow the standard installation process as mentioned in README11203V3P_1402-20009977.HTM

Read 1631931  - Oracle 11.2.0: Patches / Patch collections for 11.2.0.3 to understand known issues.

Hi Basis,

Before you update the oracle patch , points to remember

1) Stop SAP application

2) Update Opatch and MOPatch

Have you done these before starting oracle patch ?

Also try with latest Oracle patch 11.2.0.4

1949250 - Oracle 11.2.0: Patches / Patch collections for 11.2.0.4

Many on the unspecified bugs are fixed here. Refer to bug fix list here in the link http://blog.csdn.net/staricqxyz/article/details/11856693
