Hi,
When I am trying to login to Desktop connection for SAP CRM and I getting this error " The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occured on a send"
Basically, I have done the configuration by refering to DC_ADMINGUIDE-24-JAN-14.
I am not sure what is the root cause.
Could anyone please advice on this issue?

your question is pretty old, therefore let me ask: is this issue still there?
If yes:
Have you tried to reach your service with a Web Browser on the same machine as your Outlook is running?
To check that, find the path of your service within transaction SICF and and put a $metadata at the end of the URL.
Should look something like that:
https://myhost:myport/my/path/to/the/service/$metadata
You should receive a XML document which lists all the available objects that are populted by the oDATA service (e.g. AccountMain, ContactMain, ContactPerson,...).

yes, that's right, you have to set up SSL/HTTPS in Gateway System.
In general the HTTPS settings of a Netweweaver system are done in the profile (see transactions RZ10 and RZ11) and in transaction STRUST (for certificate management).
